Taking away a population’s means of nourishment doesn’t make it any less murder when they all starve to death as a result. There is a reason why multiple countries from all over Europe and the Americas consider it an act of genocide.
 
And concerning the Tatars - one doesn’t deport and murder an entire people, just because some of them joined SS units as the Nazis advanced. Many did that, from all regions the Germans conquered.  
Also, why do you think the Tartars sided with the Germans in the first place? For shits and giggles? Stalin had them persecuted for their opposition to his regime, and so many saw themselves forced to side with the Nazis for their own safety.

The mass famine was mostly the result of several consecutive failed crops, combined with the reaction to the collectivization (which was to destroy all the crops and livestock rather than let it be taken to be collective property).  
There was a famine in some Polish territories at that time too (where Western Ukraine is), but somehow nobody talks about that.

It’s no secret that he was responsible for things like the Holodomor in Ukraine, the mass deportation and massacres of Kulaks, Cossacks Tartars and the likes, and the nigh-constant leadership purges in Moscow and Leningrad.  
More than 20 Million people died by his decree. Only Mao killed more.
