Not exactly. Tanks evolved from armored cars, and many countries had many different car models they were attaching armored plates to, adapting both to the car and the needs. It’s not like tank was ‘invented’, it was more of an evolutionary creation based on armored road vehicles, and it was happening in parallel in many countries, the evolution taking different paths.

My question had to do more with the invention of the first tank, not modern ones.

>Aren’t all tanks based off of a single design from a single country?
Not at all. Every military vehicle is built with a design philosophy that is generally unique to that mil. This philosophy is formed through research and the threats the country faces.

The US follows somewhat the old German philosophy of superior tech + armor + gun = expensive but best tank. Germany couldn’t produce their tanks in the perfection that makes this philosophy effective. The US uses depleted uranium mesh armor, the best tech money can buy and a computer controlled gun meaning each shot lands where it should. Making a MBT that costs around 10 million for each unit, and the heaviest tank on the battlefield. But, it’s virtually impregnable.

Now look at the Russians, who still mostly hold to the glass cannon philosophy, simply put, strength in numbers, carrying the old soviet tradition i guess. All tanks up to the T-80, are designed to be operated easily, cheap, and mass producible. The cost of a T-80 is around 3 million, and it’s easier to repair because of it’s simple nature. However, it’s armor is only effective against older HEAT rounds, and ERA can only get you so far. T-80s lack things like separate ammo and crew compartments, meaning if a shell hits the turret, the ammo explodes and causes the turret to fly a couple hundred feet in the air, and kill all the tankers.

So to answer the question your question, no, all military armaments and tanks are produced with a philosophy and while can be based off early designs, are generally unique in the finer details.

We were talking about the tricycle. Unless there’s a tank with handlebars I don’t know about.

I chose something recent because guns can be traced to innumerable sources like China and… Whoever had a steel age before everyone else. I’m probably getting ignoramus all over this thread. Apologies. XD

The YF-23 has the conceptual production variant (I’m not entirely sure what the differences are, but I believe there are some in the airframe and engines), and the F-117 has the F-117N and A/F-117X conceptual variants.
But yeah, the Gripen didn’t have crap back then, I always forget the game came out in 2004.

@Deserter
The Gripen NG came out around 8 years later after Ace Combat 5, the YF-23 and F-117 have no other variants. And I prefer real life aircraft and their variants, rather than the sci-fi stuff.

The Gripen, F-117, YF-23 and MiG-29 definitely could of used an advanced variant. Same with the FALKEN. It even had one, but they had to leave it out due to balancing.

How could I forget it? They should have added more MiG-29 variants instead of the Hawk.

c’mon, I shot down a couple MIGs with an AH-64 Apache (in Gunship 2000) and it was more realistic a simulator than this.
