I was just reading these comments and thought there is another reason against her being a mary sue. She’s not being presented as a character turning up and interacting with the main cast, she’s a historical figure. That means there’s a selection bias; out of all the surely many, many members of the Wonderbolts across its 1000 year history, she’s one of the ones who has made the history books. We tend to remember the people who did stuff.

And apparently, there’s a Selesnya pony as well.
 
In any case, Beavernator + Ravnica = win i my book. Though I can’t help but wonder about Aurelia’s mother Razia…

Aurelia here is pretty much a carbon-copy of Aurelia in Magic: the Gathering canon. MtG Aurelia is an immensely powerful battle angel who, unlike the previous leader Razia, is much more aggressive, fighting directly on the front lines. She helped reform the Boros, who were already a highly aggressive militia of self-righteous zealots, by calling for more mass assaults with soldiers in great number, and reorganizing the legion into a much broader scope. She cannot tolerate weakness within her ranks and will do anything and everything she deems necessary to achieve victory in the name of the “greater good.”

The artist’s comment at DA on page 1 says “I really wanted to cross Magic: The Gathering with My Little Pony.”
 
The comment at page 3 says he wants to give her Pinkie Sense on top of it all, which is just more facepalm than I can deal with right now.

Yeah, I just checked and she is the leader of the Boros Legion.  
Of course, Aurelia isn’t given much backstory in the cards so most of this is likely made-up.

Aurelia appears to be a MTG card.

Also, I added tags that relate to that Fist-in-a-sun logo in there.  
It’s the symbol of the Boros Legion of Ravnica, which is from Magic the Gathering.
