@The Smiling Pony
And yet even from a biological perspective, we can see that these behaviors you refer to didn’t just pop into existence out of nowhere. There are ways in which they made sense and were useful, and I happen to think they also make life more colorful and interesting.
A world in which a male can call himself female and vice versa is a world where there is no longer a reference point to speak of, and everything becomes a dull, homogenous mass. No women, no men, just “humans” and their whimsical preferences. I’ll take social pressures over that soulless void any day.
People were able to change hundreds of thousands of years of ideas of how races worked. For most of human history it was just accepted that certain races (i.e. your own) were inherently better than others.
@Zincy
But that’s what I’m talking about, you just can’t go “Oh, I don’t like how society and their views on gender identification work so I’m gonna change it.” I mean, I don’t know how to put this; my vocabulary is not large enough to properly write down what I think about trying to change millions of years of how gender identity works.
So, yeah, that’s it, I give up. You win, I’m at a loss for words.
@Background Pony #E55F
The problem isn’t calling a male a male, it’s that “male” implies certain social behaviors like “never cry”, “sacrifice yourself for others”, “aggressive”, etc.
It’s not to do with “boys are born with dicks and they should accept that they have dicks”, it’s that being born with a dick (or the alternative) locks people into artificial social behaviors that don’t have much at all to do with their junk.
@Background Pony #E55F
you didn’t spend years of your life and tens of thousands of dollars to get people to start recognizing your interest in ponies. the chance of your family disowning you and the risk of losing your job, friends, and murdered because of ponies is also a good bit lower. pretty different.
before I choke on another mouthful of disagreeing with you while not stating a perspective: it’s a pretty common believe in china that homosexuality just doesn’t exist. they still have gays.
@kassarc16
it’s a bit weird grammaticly because we don’t have any singular neutral pronouns. it still works for the most part but it’s impossible to use formally
@GreyDaze
I disagree, and as usual, one side in this argument states a perspective, and the other chokes on a mouthful of accusations.
It’s not cruel to call a male a male. It’s not mean to observe that someone is rebelling against societal expectations, and to disapprove. People disapprove of my interest in ponies, and I am totally okay with that. I don’t feel oppressed or “damaged” because someone else thinks differently from me. If they take it to the level of bullying, that’s another story entirely.
I’m going to go one record and mention that SJW’s didn’t come up with the gender/sex divide, they co-opted it.
It’s a psychological concept used to define masculine and feminine traits separately from the biological. Used to show the effects of social norms and pressures, internalized concepts, and other mitigating factors not directly affected by ones biological sex.
The concept has been broadened to factor one set as “social constructions” and the other set as “biological factors”.
@The Smiling Pony
“They” “them” “it”
Funny, people still get pissed off about those being used (though I suppose the last has a bit of a “dehumanization” feel to it).
@GreyDaze
And once again with the whole “your gender rules” bullshit. Last time I checked boys had penises and girls vaginas, not whatever fuck they felt like.
@Background Pony #E55F Gender is an abstract idea. Sex is a fact, and even that is becoming mutable. That’s the most basic concept in everything relating to transsexualism. Once gender dysphoria became a formal diagnosis used by psychologists and physicians, it’s been a pretty recognized reality.
And yes, plenty of people would call you cruel and intolerant for utterly dismissing someone else’s feelings because you think it’s absurd they’re trans*. Because that’s damaging, dehumanizing, and mean thing to do to someone else because they didn’t follow your gender rules.
@Background Pony #E55F Ideally English (and most every other language) would have gender neutral pronouns and only used gendered ones where it actually mattered (ie. situations where the sexings are relevant).
@Deserter
After the first 100 comments everything became irrelevant to the image and I really cba with reading almost 800 comments of angry drivel to check who said what so I’m just yelling into the grand mass of text that this thread has become.
@Deserter
Your actions and words on this board are the only perception he has of you. Whether or not you are actually like that is not something he knows.
@The Smiling Pony
Oh wow, hey, just because I act like an asshole doesn’t mean I’m one of those people.
And once again I don’t understand where people are trying to go with something, the hell does social roles have to do with what I said?
@The Smiling Pony
That is still way too narrow a perspective on this. If someone is born female, I’m going to call her a she until my dying day. I won’t have anything to do with this silly farce on the grounds of tolerance and social justice. Will that be a hate crime one day? Some people wish it to be so.
First of all, lol this thread. Not a good lol, though, more like the lol of some that tried to pass someone over on an interstate and has his entire view filled with a 16 wheeler. That type of lol.
@Deserter
It’s about current social roles, not about “DICK GOES WHERE”. You know, stuff like guys are expected to keep doors open for others and girls are expected to smile at everyone? That type of thing.
Calm your tits; no one’s on a hunt to castrate you in your sleep.
@GreyDaze
You’re missing the point. There’s no use arguing with people about the fact that they happen to have been born with a Y chromosome or a certain skin color. Those aren’t abstract ideas, they’re hard facts. “Gender fluidity” is a concept, and like any concept, it’s viable for open criticism.
This isn’t about dismissing anyone, it’s about debating some particular notions.
@GreyDaze
OK, you know what? rule zero be damned, I’m not lying anymore.
The concept of gerderfuidism or whatever the fuck you’re supposed to spell it is completely stupid for one simple reason.
You are one gender. You can identify as a male, female, a fucking camel, whatever, but don’t give that “Oh, I change sexes because sometimes I identify with one and sometimes with the other” that’s just a bunch of bullshit and all you’re doing is confusing the fuck out of everybody because you’re not sure if you want to sew a pastrami to your crotch or chop your dick off yet. And honestly? I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason it was invented was to “stick it to the man” and destroy the views on gender society has or whatever crap that is.
Society has norms, and you don’t choose if you follow them or not, you just do.
“Someone perceived as aggressively imposing their Christian beliefs upon others. The term derives from preachers thumping their hands down on the Bible, or thumping the Bible itself, to emphasize a point during a sermon.”
@Background Pony #E55F
This post and the artist it’s jabbing at shows what happens when you insult or demean people for being straight and white. It pisses people off, understandably.
Just maybe doing that to other peoples identities/sexualities/ect. Is equally dickish to them.
“Dehumanizing” is a good word choice for dismissing people who’s ideas of gender complexities contradict your own, especially if they use said ‘absurd’ terms for themselves
And as for the bathroom issue, they just use the one matching their sex, seeing as how they’re all very aware of the sex/gender division
