Ok, last one I promise. Based on the tiny speck of cutie mark visible in >>576366 (Thanks @MindWave), here’s a version of Maud with a gray diamond cutie mark similar to those of Amethyst Star, Lemony Gem, and a few others. The screenshot is too small to make out any exact colors but I think this is a close approximation.

Why wouldn’t a gem make sense? Gems are nothing but very hard rocks that can hold an edge. I think Maud exemplifies that.
 
That said, it wouldn’t surprise me if they used Tom as an in-joke, but I still think it’s a gem.
