I don’t like the name Derpy, you don’t speak for me. It’s not something I would call my kid or anyone if I were allowed to. Just accept the fact that people don’t like the name “Derpy” and they have a valid reason not to, so don’t you can’t step on their feelings.

As in, they don’t watch the show, they don’t know what the heck “Derpy” is and how many hooves it has, and they only know of the supposedly offensive thing through rumours and hand-me-downs from some social network. Just like it was with DWM crowd.

At any rate, jesus, just LOOK at that avatar. Appearance doesn’t usually come into play where someone’s views are concerned, but look at that smug, self-satisfied expression. It doesn’t help to see that alongside this feminazi-style false-outrage indicting the existence of ANY fictional character with a complex more involved than attention deficit disorder.
 
It’s not like anyone is going, “look at the retard, isn’t it funny how she can’t do what other people can? Let’s throw rocks at her to show we’re superior by no merit of our own.”
 
I mean, Derpy might even be the least offensive example I can think of. Fucking Sesame Street characters have bigger mental issues than she does. When has she been portrayed as retarded?
 
…Okay, admittedly Tabitha’s portrayal in Last Roundup gave her voice a cadence that was a touch special needs… let’s be fair here…
 
But otherwise, her eyes are misaligned (I’ve known plenty of entirely normal people with this issue) and her antics protray occasionally poor decisions or a tendency towards being clumsy. Are clumsy people next on the docket for elimination? Is it unfair to portray certain people having a shade less coordination than everyone else?
 
Seriously, you want to hit up this show for mocking the mentally handicapped, how about you go after Snails first, and not just Derpy because she’s popular and you’re being a total attention-whore, so attacking her works to your purposes.
 
There’s being politically correct, and there’s being the secret morality police, to the point of censoring reality itself, and even admitting that these things EXIST makes something a target.

I have not heard a single blond jokes made out of Derpy – not a single one in all of my time in this fandom.
 
One thing I have wondered – is ableism as a word really just able + ism tagged on? I have never heard of it until recently.

Y’know, I was wandering if anyone got offended by “ditz” back then. I’m not looking, but I can see this being the next step:
 
Derpy is ableist and sexist because she’s blond.
 
Blond is an ableist hair colour as it sometimes refers to women with poor motor and reasoning skills, usually as the butt of jokes. If you dye your hair blond then you are encouraging blond jokes whenever you make a mistake.
 
Anything you do becomes a way of mocking disabled women (which it is regardless of whether you’re disabled or not), plus you’ll be encouraging the use of “ditz”, a name that a loooot of disabled women are very, very uncomfortable with…because I said so.
