The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Dragonmage

>^ He’s not a little kid, dude.

Never said, that he’s a little kid, just that he’s a child and a child needs somebody to take care of him/her.

>^ – Goes on royal Canterlot business alone.

Not true, all he does is send and write messages. That’s not “business” that’s secretary work, business is when you make the plans and have the authority to allow said plans to become reality while said plans also have lots of influence of other people’s life and so on. Spike has none of that for obvious reason of being a child.

– Is able to fall in love and moves to confess his feelings.

So what? I did so too with 6. Does that mean I was an adult at that time? I’m 24 and I could still argue that there are times/situations where I behave like a child.

– States that “teenage dragons” were more his speed.”

That was due there being no other baby dragons he could have mingled with. Those teen dragons were the closet he had to his age in his own race group. And those teen treated him not as an equal but as an inferior due the age and size difference. So what Spike feels and what Spike is, are two different kind of shoes.

– Is older than the CMCs

So what. A Dog only gets 12 years old at most but they are already fully-grown adults after 1-2 years. How would you treat them if they were capable of speech and got intelligence just like humans? After human or after dog standard? Spike gets treated not after Pony standard, but after dragon where a “nap” takes over a hundred years for fully grown dragons.
Besides the CMC must have been born at that point already due AJ having no parents who wave her good-bye when she leaves. Else you tell me that Applebloom is the daugther of AJ, Applebloom was even born before Spike was hatched, same for the others due being in the same class/year. So them being same age is more likely than Spike being “older” than them.

– Doesn’t attend school.

Probably because no school has teacher trained to teach dragons? It’s like in our society where schools cannot take all students in for several reasons, in this case the teachers could be scared to have a dragon, even if only a baby dragon who’s guardian seems to be the newest princess.
Besides he could have been teached all that through Twi or Celestia. Either by being taught by Twi after she’s finished with her lessons, aka it was where they bond and where Spike like all babies took in as much as possible, or Celly added all that in his brain via magic. Lots of reasons why he’s not at school, him being an “adult” is the most unlikely one.

– Fixes breakfast for Twilight in the mornings—he so called “parent” by many.

And? I had to help with breakfast too and cook for myself adn my brothers when the parents were out working. Granted I did that as a teen and not under ten years, but being able to cook doesn’t make you an adult either. Besides who you think taught Spike those skills? Could have been Twi via cookbooks which Spike took as oppurtunity to help Twi out and start cooking for her so that she has more free time to study.

– Refers to Twilight as a sister and says to her face that she’s not his mom.

When did he called her sister? Can’t remember that. As for the mom part, he first did called her mom in his sleep when he heard her voice. His subconcious could see Twi as his mother if dragons have similar to birds a “first thing is my mama” moment where Twi was hte first thing he saw. Sure he would never admit that to Twi, but it is possible.
Besides just because Twi isn#t Spike’s mom/not viewed by Spike as his mom, doesn#t mean Twi doesn’t have the right to educate and raise Spike. She seems to be his guardian and so her duty is to get him clean even if he doesn#t want to. After all, Rarity doesn#t wanna see her Spikey-wikey being all dirty and full with bakterias.

– Is frank far more than what would be acceptable for a child to be around adults.

Happens due his raising and him being a dragon. The FIRST dragon EVER raised by ponies as far as we know. I could see Celly trying to get Spike into school but his body growth and mind growth was probably too different from normal ponies so Kindergarten and elementary school were out for him. Plus again, teachers and parents probably were too scared to have a dragon in school, espeically when it burps fire accidently. So Spike being raised by the older Twi and Celly and the other adults around them makes sense and could also be why he feels more comfortable around adults than pony kids - he never had much interaction with them.

– Twilight tells Spike things—things she won’t normal tell the others—and he gives her advice.

Eh, I’m sure she would tell them if there were there to listen. Spike just happens to be convenient for the writers to have a talk with Twi when she’s at the library as well as to act as the voice of reason if Twi is supposed to act crazy for the story’s sake.

– Past Generation Spike was well over a 1000 years old while still being the size of current Spike.

Past generation Spike? Ooooh, you mean the Spike of G3! And what does G3 have to do with G4? This is a reboot and not a continution. Past-gen Spike was over a 1000 years old and still a baby, Now-Gen Spike is probably around ten and still a baby. In both cases the baby part was always added with a “dragon” to make clear that he’s considered a baby in dragon terms while he could be older and wiser than many other ponies who were already grown adults.

>^ I’m just acknowledging Twilight’s power. I think this picture is rather cute. It captures an aspect of their childhood friendship perfectly. :)

Didn’t felt that way to me. It felt more like “Spike is so poor and helpless and treated unfairly and Twi is such a horrible monster who doesn’t deserve Spike at all and should just die in a fire” which is why I wrote about it being ridiculous.

To be fair, he hadn’t washed his cheek for the past three days and it got pretty dirty and stinky. How you think Rare would have reacted to be greeted by such a cheek? Not much different than Twi by wanting to wipe it, just coupled with lots of “eewww” and “oh the drama”. Spike is still a kid and like with all kids parents sometimes have to do the right things even if the kids don’t like them. Like going to the dentist or cleaning said dirty face. That’s no abuse, that’s normal parenting.

@Dragonmage

“Helpless” = can swim in Lava and even DRINK it, can turn into a 30 metres bigass angry dragon, can flame everything, is more sturdy than most guards with their armor, etc and etc. Helpless is a pretty damn big and very wrong word to describe Twi’s and Spike’s relationship with, just sayin’.

Seriously, can’t you guys stop seeing Spikeabuse in every pic Spike smiles at Twi/Twi smiles at Spike? It’s starting to get more ridiculous than the shippers.

My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

Twilight doesn’t have to hurt Spike–she can pick him up with her telekinesis and carry him around like a rag doll (and has done so on numerous occasions). And she can teleport him against his will, so there’s really no escape for the little guy.

We’re actually not entirely sure what put RD in the hospital…with one little broken bone. It must have been bad though since RD has flown into a rock face at high speed and received no injury. Plus the ponies stretch like taffy, I’m not are if dragons are tougher. Regardless, spike gets squashed by books often enough.

@Techy Pony
Ah, that’s right. I guess she could teleport him high enough for the fall to hurt.
As you said, I was thinking about them trying harm each other directly, which is how I don’t think either can do anything to the other. Aside from the “horn beam” (where only Luna’s & Celestia’s seems any strong) Pony magic in general doesn’t seem to be offensive in nature. Its either defensive, or objective-oriented, like conjuring things out of thin air.

I only mentioned the lava as an additional feat though :)
I meant dragon scales in general, which should be extremely resistant to damage. Spike is, on a regular basis, through worse stuff that what once put Rainbow in the hospital.

@Background Pony #BE6C
Were she to teleport him high in the air….I think that would do it. Just because he’s immune to high heat doesn’t mean her magic can’t effect him. Though you’re right, it’s not like she’s studied spells particularly made for harming anyone.
Background Pony #638B
@Techy Pony
Magic that doesn’t go beyond shot range teleporation and small beams though.
Also, dragon scales, lava, etc.
Spike can’t catch her, and she can’t harm him. It’d be a stalemate.

Twilight: “Now, we need to talk about an apology.”
Spike: “I forgive you.”

I like how you characterize Spike. It’s more akin to comic Spike, who’s dry-humored and a bit dark-hearted, as opposed to show Spike who McCarthy seems to have no idea what to do with.
