I’ll say this, in terms of getting the moral wrong, this episode isn’t the only one to do that. I’ve seen this moral done numerous times over the years, and they always make the same errors. All things considered, I don’t really hate this episode for that.

But I absolutely DESPISE the episode for the abuse Twilight goes through. I can forgive getting a moral wrong, but HOLY BALLS did they go overboard with the slapstick. That’s what really killed the episode for me.

@James Rye
Wasn’t going to weigh in on this two year old argument, but I don’t want one of the last two comments on such a great title card to be so ignorant, so here goes
You look pretty stupid in hindsight, not gonna lie
  1. “Pinkie’s sense was anything but earth pony magic?” According to WHO? You? Her? That she, or you, had never seen any other Earth ponies do anything like that up until this point in the story hardly means a thing when you consider how much of a recluse she was up until going to Ponyille, and all her closest “friends” up until that point were Unicorns, meaning she knew fuckall about Earth ponies. Even you, as the viewer, had little worldwide perspective on what Earth ponies were capable of, considering this was only the fifteenth episode of the first season. So who exactly are you to decide that her pinkie sense was anything but earth pony magic?
2.“It was a unique only for Pinkie avaiable sense to foresee the future. No other earthpony got what Pinkie got.” Again, according to fucking who? This is especially stupid, when we later see Cheese Sandwich, ANOTHER earth pony, display a similar ability. Really jumped the gun there, didn’t you? As to why these two have such advances earth magic, well, I thought it was explained a while ago, wasn’t it? Friendship is Magic, and who has more friends than premiere party ponies? Which would also imbue them with more magic than is the norm, thus resulting in the manifestation of these strange powers of theirs
    Lastly
3.“It was reasonable for Twi to doubt it.” - not really sure what you meant to convey with this, or how it helps your argument, but whatever, since it was reasonable to doubt it, just not for the reasons that you gave
tl;dr Don’t call someones reasoning bullshit, then spew something even worse in your own response

I…don’t understand why people are calling this the “worst episode ever”. I didn’t have a problem with it…mostly because I always look forward to Derpy and Twilight-Rapidash’s appearances in the episode.

Sorry, that’s bullshit. Twi believes in Pegasi and Earthpony magic as well, but Pinkie’s Pinkie senses are anything but earthpony magic thus she couldn’t accept it. It was a unique only for Pinkie avaiable sense to foresee the future. No other earthpony got what Pinkie got. It was reasonable for Twi to doubt it.

My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

My take on “Feeling Pinkie Keen” is that the episode was a lesson about narrow-mindedness and bigotry, not “knowledge vs. faith”.

Twilight Sparkle refused to believe in Pinkie Sense because it didn’t fit her world-view of what magic was. She was insisting (in her soapbox scene) that “real” magic was the kind you study, practice and control. Or in other words, the kind of magic Unicorns practice.

Thing is, Pinkie Sense is magic, but not Unicorn magic–it’s Earth pony magic. Like the Earth ponies’ ability to grow crops, Pinkie Sense isn’t something Pinkie Pie “does”; it’s just something that’s part of her basic nature. There’s no point in trying to study or control it, it just is.

Twilight’s problem throughout the episode was her refusal to acknowledge this. Her recognition at the end that there was more magic out there than she understood was a tacit acknowledgment of the reality of Earth pony magic.

I liked the episode, (and I like this fan artwork to)
I just think people misunderstood the moral, especially the “Militant-Athiests” (who are basically the Atheist equivalent of a “Bible-thumper”) and blew the whole episode out of proportion overall.

Shame, ’cause it has alot of good sight-gags. Even a falling anvil, as a nod to “Looney Tunes.”

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

The big reason it’s one of my favorite episodes, in fact, is that I tend to do exactly what Twiliht did - stubbornly refuse something for the pure reason I don’t understand it. You know what else I don’t understand? Gravity. Why is mass attracted together like that? No idea whatsoever. But denying gravity exists would be silly without some sort of grounds, wouldn’t it? Sure, I’m an advocate for skeptisism, but you can still be pretty sure about something even if you don’t understand them.

Ohp! Hit the post button. Darn phone. Anyway, she wasn’t accepting results because of internal reasons. In fact, it’s COUNTER-religious. It’s more like people who argue against evolution when it is clearly observable and reproducable. No matter how much you deny it, it keeps happening and it will still be absolutely right.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

One of my favorite episodes, and I’m constantly criticized for overanalyzing. The problem isn’t overanalysis, it’s incorrect analysis and looking for conflict. Ironically, or perhaps logically, the people who hate it are the ones who needed the lesson the most. The description at the end was bad - Faust admitted to that herself. What people don’t take into account is that Pinkie Sense was observably correct. It’s not comparable to god. The problem wasn’t that Twilight woupdn’t accept something

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

People hated the religious connotations in the whole “leap of faith” thing, but (being on barbiturates at the time) I thought it was a reference to Karl Jaspers.

Twilight comes face to face with the absurd (Pinkie sense) and is unable to defeat it with knowledge. Her standing on the ledge represents the limits of knowledge against an unknowable world, and so she has to take a leap of faith (transcendence) to escape her ‘existenz’, to use Jasper’s term. She abandons reason and accepts Pinkie Sense (and the unknowable absurdity of the world she live in). At the end of the episode, she’s happy to have transcended reason.

Afterwards, when watching it again, I decided it was a bad episode, and then wondered what kind of quack doctor prescribes barbiturates for a god damn inflamed tendon.

this episode is a little over hated in my opinion its not great and the moral could have been handled a bit better but its not as bad as everyone made it out
