Description

And the similarities between 2 of Hasbro’s biggest franchises continue in their made for tv movies.

Both Sunset Shimmer and Megatron end up with incredible power, one from a magical crown, another from Unicron’s possession. They take on demonic forms during their power increase.

Both control a legion of zombie like minions, and are eventually defeated.

After their defeat, they repent with little or no consequence from the protagonists as they let them go.

It be grand if Sunset met him and help him. And it be grand to see them fight Transmetal 2 Megartron, thus helping in Megartron’s reydeeming.. for the BW version be a monster of his forging.

optimus prime: sunset shimmer. sunset shimmer: yes? optimus prime: thank you for giving up your old way. because you have taught everyone that power is not good.

Megatron: Because I now know the true meaning of oppression and have thus lost my taste for inflicting it.
Starscream: You’ve clearly been traumatized master. A good power down and a stroll around the Smelting Pit will put you back in touch with your inner warlord.
Megatron: Enough! The Decepticons are no more. And that is final.

Well, I suppose if you say we’re only taking Predacons Rising and Equestria Girls, then the comparison is a bit closer.

I still argue Megatron is far worse than Sunset, though. When he was possessed and upgraded, he was at first eager thanks to the power-up. It’s only when he realised Unicron had no intention of sharing power he started actively opposing him. If Unicron hadn’t possessed him, I’m certain Megs would’ve immediately gone right back to waging his war.

Whoa, there. Unicron only played puppet with Megatron in the Predacons Rising movie. Up until that point, all the way up to the start of the War, it was all Megatron all the way.

But on the other (other) hand, Sunset Shimmer wasn’t responsible for starting a terrible war that cost countless lives, poisoning the living core (and god) of their homeworld, raising those countless dead as a zombie army and attempting to turn Earth into a metallic deathball (twice).

I’d say Megatron’s got a lot more to answer for than Sunset Shimmer.
SSJWolverine

These two situations were completely different.

Sunset Shimmer was completely in control of all of her actions, whereas Megatron was enslaved by Unicron in body and soul.

As such, Megatron’s redemption made sense in that he doesn’t want anyone to suffer the way he had.

Sunset’s, on the other hand, came out of nowhere.

I think it’s because there was a much bigger cast of characters in the old G1 cartoon, and so a much bigger chance you would find a character you happened to like. Plus, they had quirks and talking styles that made them stand out, even if they only appeared in one or two episodes.

For example, I loved Powerglide, the large ham flying Autobot who knew he was good, and liked to make sure both friend and foe knew it.

Prime is much better written, but has a smaller cast so if you don’t happen to like any of the characters you might not get so into it. The Prime Autobots, for example, are generally quite serious.
