My Little Pony - 1992 Edition
The End wasn't The End - For those that found a new home

My two cents.
It is disrespectful to edit out wings out of spite just as it is disrespectful to edit in wings out of spite when an artist's intentions are clear.
Unfortunately, It only seems to go one way. Sometimes when an artist intentionally draws a unicorn Twilight in a certain manner, some pro-Twilicorn bullies get butthurt about it, call the artist a butthurt duck and edit in wings out of spite.

I find it offensive whenever people edit art to be anything other than what the artist drew. Don't put words in my mouth. The difference between SuperEdit and the edits Karpet usually gets is that SuperEdit is like "I bet I can make this good image even funnier" while the Karpet edits are "this would be so cool if she didn't have wings."

If you want a picture without Twilight's wings, either wait for her to draw it or commission her. Don't be surprised when artists get discouraged.

>they may live a completely different reality.
Well that's something that's certainly become clear to me.

@Itsthinking
I don't know what you keep talking about dicks on pictures. We were talking about removing Twilight's wings. Also, the skin color issue, lawl. I bet you didn't find it offensive when people edited pictures to make Mane6 characters dark-skinned.

We also have many SFW edits of pictures on this site by anonymous contributors. Or SuperEdit, who makes such good edits his favorite image has a score of over 400. Should those all be banned too?

@Background Pony
Not petty at all, it's totally legitimate.
It's about how a minor artist is presented to the clients. They browse the Internet, find the edits without being aware those are edits, or just say "How can you allow these things?!" and cancel a commission.

@Background Pony
That depends on a myriad of things. It depends on the type of your art, of your subjects. It depends on how much your art is a source of income for you. It depends on the effort you put. And so on.
You simply cannot blame other artists to have a different opinion than you, because they may live a completely different reality.

Again, drawing dicks onto pictures. Maturity. Editing races of humanizations if they're anything but completely and ridiculously Caucasian. It is pretty disrespectful.

You should respect artists that have a different view on their art than you do. The artist that got on Karpet's case about her view draws very different things than she does. He works for a very different audience. And again, he showed himself to be a bastion of maturity.

Like I should expect more from someone who thinks riding the same goddamn joke over and over again is hilarious.

@Itsthinking
I seriously do not see how it is disrespectful. I release all my art under the CC-Attribution-ShareAlike license. That way people can enjoy my work, and change something if they like it better that way, as long as they still credit me. I see no harm in anyone doing this, as the original artwork still exists and people can still enjoy my work the way I intended it to, except there are now also people who can enjoy the work that they previously could not.

Sorry, but I find restricting people editing your pictures extremely vain, on an equivalent level of "donut steel".

Drawing dicks on another artist's work because they hold a different viewpoint than you on how they want their art to be consumed isn't?

If you edit an artist's work to remove something you don't like because they do or add something because you want it is incredibly disrespectful to the artist. Don't they have a right to have their original intent in the piece?

As far as I'm concerned, artists like Karpet should be respected. She wasn't smug or arrogant, she said she'd try to appeal to everyone.

Then other artists hounded her and acted TOTALLY mature and hilarious.

Realize that others may not share the same view you have on their work. Don't try to force it on them, it discredits you.

In a perfect world, good artists always earn enough to make a living, in a way or the other.
In this world it doesn't work like that, and that's why you have to respect the copyright, if you respect the artist.
Background Pony #DCCD
@BigMax
That's why I said "should be" and not "is".

In a perfect world, people like you would also understand that free art is far more valuable than keeping everything to yourself.

@Background Pony
You're not the one who decides.
At the present time, the artist is the copyright holder and can decide if you can edit and distribute her works, and how.
Deal with it. And thank the world that artists are usually nice persons that don't mind some minor non-rude edits.
