I am not going to ban someone because they have an opinion I disagree with, regardless of what it is. As long as people can talk to eachother without devolving into petty insults, they can say whatever they want.

The site administration disagrees heavily with a lot of the content and posts on the site*, but we absolutely will not dictate what is “right” or “wrong”, what is “good” or “bad” or try to establish a fandom moral standard via banning people or content we disagree with. We are a species doted with the power to argue things in a rational manner; exploit that rather than try to silence those you disagree with.

We run a bare minimum of censorship of content, mostly to the effect of keeping illegal images and personal attacks away. That is all I’m concerned about.  
I don’t like a lot of the stuff on here but that’s not for me to push my personal opinion on. I also don’t like a lot of the stuff on the internet in general but it’s the responsibility of the person using it to handle the content in a mature and reasonable manner.

If the other mods enforce one way, people take that as a signal with regards to the actual standard of behavior. The believe they have implicit permission, and are not breaking the rule in the way it’s being interpreted/enforced. Since, you know, a rule like ‘be nice’ has a big old band of grey in it.
 
So no, they don’t have only themselves to blame. They mostly have you, for swooping in and enforcing a different standard than they thought they were working under.

I guess this really exposes the crux of the issue, for you. You don’t seem to think anyone should be allowed to say ‘horrible, horrible things’, and the determiner of what constitutes ‘horrible, horrible things’ is your judgement.
 
I guess it would be nice to be that sure of my own moral rectitude. But seriously, dude. People aren’t all the same. They cope with life and the issues contained in it in very different ways. They come from different backgrounds that give them different ways of relating to the world and different standards for conduct. You seem to think you’ve got your hands on a fundamental, universal Code of Conduct for humanity. Unfortunately, you don’t. It’s only fundamental to you.
 
You’re making the mistake that dozens of religions have made before you–believing that you’ve got the recipe for a Utopia, if only everyone would follow it. Unfortunately, you can’t make everyone follow it. You can’t make the world live in your personal Utopia. I’m totally being a hypocrite though since I’m a fascist.

Censorship isn’t helpful, that’s a fact, and I respectfully disagree with some of the Down With Molestia posters on that regard. However, I do agree with them that it is a serious issue that needs to be addressed in ways that it is not currently being addressed by Princess Molestia supporters. Many of the responses of supporters that I have seen have been nothing short of appalling, and it would be really nice if people could have a legitimate conversation without flying off the handle at the drop of a hat.
 
Studies have been done on this, taking groups of people and controlling their exposure to certain types of media. Consuming pornography alone does increase people’s overall aggression towards others when compared to people who do not. However, people who consume pornography and are simultaneously exposed to factual information about the problems associated with sexual assault display, on the whole less aggression than even the people who don’t consume any.
 
There is an opportunity here for something actually positive to happen, but not as it currently stands.
