First of all, Dell’s ads stole the startup noise from the Windows XP computer. Check out the end of the ad and you’ll see.

Second, CMC, you do realize that Windows 10 is out now? You can get a better computer. XD

XP still has a few advantages over 7.

  • Manual file assortment without the files getting grouped automatically by one of the categories, and

  • Individual tabs on the task bar for each open application without them being grouped by folder, browser, image etc. categories (because win7 doesn’t hide open applications when you click them on the task bar, only brings them up)
  • Very small usage of memory, though win7 isn’t that bad of a memory hog.

Maybe some more minor ones. But otherwise win7 is great.

It doesn’t affect the boot screen though. However, the boot screen only looked like this (no edition text or copyright date) from Service Pack 2 onwards, and Service Pack 2 had a load of widely-used pirated license keys blacklisted and refused to install. The text you’ve got is part of the Genuine Advantage programme, another (futile) effort by Microsoft to curb piracy.

I remember mine having a couple of lines saying “This is not an original WiXP copy” and a bunch of numbers instead of the Microsoft logo on the lower right side corner. It also didn’t allow me to customize the desktop.
