So, fanfics and headcanon define the show as much as actual episode scripts?
No, there’s a clear progression of what is more canon or less canon to the show, all deriveable from logical application of one basic premise: if you saw something in the show, it must have happened in the show. Your lack of understanding doesn’t change the rules any more than your lack of understanding changes mathematics.

The book is canon; but it is lesser canon than the show itself. The book has not suddenly re-filmed “Hurricane Fluttershy.” Every time I watch it, Cloudchaser’s name will still be Cloudchaser. But we have seen screw-ups in less canon sources (the Trixie toy being named Lulamoon, for example) being fixed to match the show.
Fanon CAN affect the show (e.g., Derpy being named Derpy), and Hasbro CAN force a retcon of the show if they want (e.g., Derpy no longer being named Derpy). But CAN doesn’t equal DID. Until the show changes, the book hasn’t changed it.
Basic rules of canon priority folks, these were worked out before most of you were sperms: If it was seen in the show, it’s canon, period. Nothing trumps it, except other episodes of the show.
Books are way, way, …way… down the list of canon sources.
She’s Cloudchaser because the show said she was; the book fucked up and should be ignored. (The probable reason why being three popular M:TG cards already existed with the Cloudchaser name: an “Aven Cloudchaser,” “Cloudchaser Eagle,” and “Cloudchaser Kestrel.” Hasbro owns all three names, but still probably don’t want to mangle up the trademarks in print.)

Okay, here goes.
Wow. I can’t believe they canonized every single fanon name for the Wonderbolts, Especially Surprise. (Just a bit disappointed, cause I preferred G4 Surprise not to be a Wonderbolt, but whatever. Always glad to get new official names and/or treats to fans)

Her name was mentioned specifically by Rainbow Dash once, yes. I don’t see how getting one name right and one name wrong isn’t erroneous.
