That may have held water in the first season but there have been more and more male characters as of late.
I actually went and counted the number a females to the number of males using the MLP:FIM Wiki and came up with roughly 65-60% female and 40-35% male.
Female characters are still the majority but they’re not the whooping 90% majority that people seem to believe.
a folder labeled “Fancy BG Ponies 7” or something.

But seriously, M/F shipping is incredibly overshadowed, and that’s what bothers me.
Hey when 90% of your characters including background ones are female you have to expect some yuri shipping
Isn’t DJ Pon3 from Ponyville? Two of her three appearances place her there, and we’ve seen her there when she isn’t working.
It’s alright either way, doesn’t really matter.
Octavia and Scratch already fill that niche.
