I understand it’s unhealthy, and not a beauty standard, but I admit I have some attraction to overweight women. They don’t have to be super huge, or unhealthy though.

I think some fans just enjoy seeing characters drawn in other ways, and drawing fatter characters can be a challenge too.

I agree, it’s a truly massive range. For instance, this fluttershy is at the upper limit for my tastes but a lot of people in the community would view her as too small for their tastes and wouldn’t be happy unless she’s immobile, which is something i’m not into in the slightest.

It also crosses over with over stuff, some people are only into pregnancy, vore or belly inflation and have no interest in weight gain even though they often result in similar body types.

That’s the part I don’t get when trying to find the positivity of this as something to be celebrated, vs a woman/pony/character that is happy with their appearance in a healthy, non-incapacitated way. If you’ve seen what a comparable level of obesity could do to someone like, keeping them trapped inside their room at home, dependent on others to feed, wash and take care of them, a very decreased libido, and not even being able to get up because their bones would break it… just. I mean, I guess it’s fantasy and I’m overthinking it, but I am legit trying to understand it, even if my mental blocks are making it difficult to do so.

You say you’re “overthinking it”, but I’d say that in comparison to this art’s target audience, you have a harder time suspending your disbelief on the subject due to your particular life experiences. Or in less pretentious terms: when you look at pictures like this, you immediately think of the IRL health consequences, and you’re turned off. But when I look at pictures like this, I’m just thinking “big round soft :)”—thoughts about the health consequences come to me much later, if they come at all, and I can easily dismiss them. I 100% agree with you that those IRL effects of obesity are the opposite of sexy. But art like this is a fantasy where those health effects don’t necessarily exist—a way to indulge appreciation for this body type without subjecting anyone to those effects.

On the other hand, some people are turned on by all those negative health effects. As someone on the outside looking in, my best guess is it’s an attraction to hedonism and self-indulgence taken to the extreme: “A woman who eats whatever she wants, whenever she wants is hot. Therefore, a woman who eats enough to permanently ruin her health is even hotter.” But that’s just a guess.

The lass is not pinned down by societal norms. She is free to enjoy herself and does so happily. That’s very attractive. She is also notably softer, which is considered a plus in the bedroom.

These are of course generalizations that you can make about any group of people, subconscious or otherwise, and do not pertain to all members.

And to demonstrate how fat fetishists are definitely not a monolith: my preferences are almost exactly the opposite of this. I gravitate to scenes of characters getting force-fed or otherwise fattened against their will. Rather than weight as a sign of confidence and self-indulgence, I like when weight signals the character is the sub in a weird pseudo-BDSM dynamic.

If you say so. That hasn’t been my experience working at hospitals and retirement homes, although admittedly the latter are affected by old age, so, y’know, fair enough.

I’ll just attribute this to the same kind of kink some people have for things like adults in diapers: something I’m just not meant to understand. Thanks for indulging my curiosity though. It was kind of you to take the time to try and walk me through it.

Unless that was some sort of sarcasm that didn’t get through? Either way, while I can see some of your points, like some people finding ‘softer’ more appealing than say the other extreme (skeletal and therefore hard and bony) excessive weight gain is not a plus in any circumstance when it’s so obviously unhealthy as presented here and in other similar art. This is not someone that can function.

I don’t get the appeal of this. Not trying to be mean: I’m not going to downvote it, but I really can’t see how this is a positive thing or something attractive to anyone at all… to me it feels more tragic than anything when characters are fattened up to an excessive size like this. “Unhealthy” barely scratches it, and of course there is far more excessive art about characters being super-inflated.
Anyone here feel like explaining what you find appealing about this kind of thing to me?
