The Phantom in the book has no qualms about killing people, builds traps everywhere around his home, and has a torture chamber. He’s pretty bad yeah. The musical tones it down a fair bit, and the movie wayne mentioned more so.

Well I actually only watched the 2004 version (sorry) and in that one the Phantom had a tragic backstory of having ugly face and got bullied so he decided to kidnap a woman and kill people, so he is basically Jason Voorhees but in a musical.
