I probably could. Like, these concepts aren’t too difficult to explain in a vacuum. Like, three phase power just has three hot lines instead of two. With two phases (a 120/240v system) the two lines (phases) are completely opposite each other: this means voltage from one phase to neutral makes 120v, while voltage from one phase to the other is 240v, because the two peak at the same time just in opposite directions. Their sine waves look like this:

Three phase has three lines, but they don’t peak opposite each other. They peak one after the other like one, two, three, one, two, three. This means that one phase to neutral still makes 120v, but any two phases together make only 208v, because their sine waves look like this:

Three phase is more common in shops and industrial. It’s better than single phase in almost every way, and 208v is wholly compatible with 240v devices save for how any resistive heater (baseboard heater, dryer, stove, etc) won’t get quite as hot. Motors work much better on three phase, since you don’t need a starter coil and you can reverse the direction of the motor by swapping any two phases :D

I know the difference between voltages and volts - and I do use V for both; this is really common where I live.
“The unit for voltage (V) is volts (V).”
In fact, because that voltages and volts are different concepts, the V symbol isn’t ambiguous; the context would tell which it stands for! _{(Just keep volumes out of the equation… that’s actually annoying.)}
The symbols repeat all the time and we’re okay with that. :P
