Mostly a defense mechanism for myself as I watched the season finale and saw that “essence” of sorts come out of Twilight with Celestia’s horn glowing.
 
**Shrug ** At this point, I REALLY don’t care either way. Don’t care if the MLPFIM crew decides to suddenly make the rest of the mane6 into Princesses for toy sales, and decide Twilight needs a Prince Charming pony of sorts so Hasbro can sell a second Canterlot Wedding style playset.

I don’t know how you came to that conclusion. The way I understand it from both the show and the book, Celestia doesn’t grant Alicornhood. It is an ascencion that is pretty much like becoming a buddha: through enlightenment
 
Celestia merely somehow seems to know when it happens and guides the pony in question through it, so they don’t freak out.

Yea, that alicorn thing still kind of bugs me. Don’t know why exactly it displeases me so much, but it just seems like “you are a chosen one. Here are your complimentary wings, horn, and/or earth pony powers.”
 
Would have been better for it to be Princess Celestia and Princess Luna imho. Though Cadence was a selling point, her past being secretive could have been a good point. Now with Celestia just granting alicornhood to ponies, it kind of feels degrading. Whatever, it’s a show designed to sell products to little girls, so I can’t say anything.
 
Alicorns = Special, all alicorns = princesses, thus the show’s target audience has a way to relate by believing they are special because all little girls want to be princesses. At least, according to Meghan McCarthy’s twitter post all little girls envision/dream of being princesses.

Speaking of wich, I read that book today. I wouldn’t really recommend it, it is incredibly cheesy, has a few continuity errors and whatnot. Then again, it is a book for young childern, so no real surprise there.
 
I gues the most valuable thing about it is that it sheds a little more light on the origins of Alicorns, pretty much confirming the ‘Alicorns are basically buddhas’ theory/headcanon bronycurious came up with after Magical Mystery Cure.
