Nice that he got a little bit of depth though. Like, that’s actually the only thing we know about what his relationship with Twilight was like when they were kids – that Twilight was something of a crybaby and Shiny bullied her a little bit for it, which is pretty in-line for a brother/daughter relationship at that age. Him in Sparkles Seven was also the first time he got to actually be a character with quirks and flaws, rather than just a plot device or a damsel in distress or “the brother” or “the father” or “the captain” – like, we actually got to see him make logical, if flawed, decisions and be proud of the fact rather than just sort of being an accessory to family members who always outdo him. In fact, Sparkle’s Seven is the only time in the entire series he’s actually succeeded at doing something – the only reason he “lost” was because characters outside of the competition interfered. I argue that he won in the end, as the win condition was never met: the win condition was that TWILIGHT had to take the crown and get out with it to win, otherwise Shining Armor won. Even if you argue semantics that “whoever” takes the crown wins, Spike never met the entire win condition as he didn’t escape and was caught red-handed with the crown :P

At least Shining is portrayed as good guy, a dutiful father and captain, with a geeky side. The only thing I didn’t like was his condescending smugness in Sparkle’s Seven and traumatizing Twilight during a ladybug infestation. However, I admit I’m an outsider on sibling dynamics, being an only child. Still, the latter was pretty dickish. Like, really dude? Ladybug spots as extra eyes? Your poor sister is scared, the LEAST you could’ve done was try to calm her down, maybe say the spots are good luck or something?!

It’s an awesome power regardless though :D

It’s what’s ironic about Chrysalis, when you think about it. She could quite literally have everything she wanted, and with less effort, if she WASN’T a villain. She’s like Sandman in Spider-Man 3 using his power to rob banks instead of in construction and mining XD

It’s basically the most broken power ever since you can literally have the inherent powers of anything you can turn into as well – turn into a bird to fly, a gorilla for power, a cheetah for speed, etc XD

Eh, you have a point, though I’d argue it’s due to the show not utilizing him enough. Actually, Cadence as a Paladin would fit very well for her, since she enjoys excitement now and then. Plus, Paladins are motivated by virtue, so love would be fitting, so long it doesn’t become an obsession and remains pure.
