Y’know, re-reading this a year later it suddenly occurs to me, how did Luna know about Twilight’s twosome? Juice doesn’t seem like the kind to tell stories. Maybe Pauldron serves as Luna’s eyes and ears in the palace?

That’s correct. William Caxton had the first printing press in England, which he got from Germany (or Holland, both at the time being part of the Holy Roman Empire). German never used the thorn, so Caxton found he didn’t have it in his cases of type. As it happened, medieval scribes tended to be sloppy with their thorns, and the loop tended to stretch upward. Caxton thought that looked like a Y, and since he had Y in his typecases, he used that for thorn. That is why we have “ye olde shoppe”, the y is really a thorn. Read something printed in Shakespeare’s day and you’ll see lots of “ye” and “yat” and “yis” and so forth.

Eth is an Old English thing, it was replaced by thorn long before the printing press.

Yup! The thorn (þ), and the eth (Ð) are the two letters in question. :)
It’s my understanding that they fell out of use once printing became a thing, since printing press typesets imported from Europe didn’t have those letters. But I could be wrong about that.

If I recall correctly there were two “letters” for the th sound because it has two different but distinct pronunciations. Th as in thing and th as in they. There were also MANY other wonderful letters that are no longer in use in the written English language.

Thanks! I was unsure how to dress her for “work”. In addition to looking good, it looks (at least to me) like she’d also be a bit uncomfortable with wearing something like that. Which is plot appropriate anyway, given that I’m having her be relatively new to Princessing.

Juicebox just happily stripping and waving is adorable, but oh my gosh Twilight looks amazing in that suit!

I’m having Luna speak early modern English. Thorns were an old and middle English þing. I like your general way of þinking, þough. :)

You should try to work some thorns into Luna’s speech. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorn_(letter)). They disappeared after Caxton got his printing press, but they’d probably be appropriate for the era Luna is based on. Plus they’d confuse everyone else.

Yeah, I also feel the “imposter syndrome”. I imagine after enough centuries, the two sisters have finally gotten over that. One would hope.

I know, right? Such a hard life! To be fair, it is also work, in that he needs to focus on learning and meeting their needs, even more than in normal sex, because he’s specifically there to please them, and gets to get off while he’s at it.

Hehe~ She’s fun to write. Even though writing in my best attempt at accurate early modern English is a lot of work. XD

Of course, it’s one thing for Twi to learn to be less shy about sex when she’s playing around with boys…but when the “grownups” find out, that’s a whole different matter! (She’s in her 20s here, but you get what I mean)

Regarding JB… yeah, at this point he’s kind of accepted “this is my life now” :)

I totally love the character you’ve given Luna here, much more… human, but using a very archaic form of speech, yet with a twist of modern onlooks and attitude.
