Too tired to care
There’s a drawing I’ve been working on quite similar to this thematically. But I keep getting discouraged with art and haven’t finished it. It’s been sitting in my WIP folder for months.
Background Pony #4147
This reminds me of a speech I came across online. I’ll share some snippets of the first quater here:
Discussing anything topical online can be hard at best, and draining at worst. We turn on each other for not being up to date. We take ideas we deem negative to be indicators of someone’s entire character. The way we approach topics also deserve critique.
It’s easy to become pessimistic, but the idea of working towards a balanced society is achievable. But we can only do this by practicing compassion, instead of pointing fingers. There is a place for outrage, anger, and resentment but if we aim to tackle issues at the branches instead of the root, we find ourselves entangled.
I’m sure we’re all in agreement that the current climate online is a verbal landmine. We’ve reduced complex issues to black and white (right/wrong problematic/progressive, good/bad). Having productive ideas is not enough to stop an online mob from cancelling you if you misuse a word or have a difference of opinion. We shut down conversation more than we encourage it. This doesn’t leave space for perspective and instead it scares everyone into having the same ideas.
