I loved this movie, I’m using the word loved here, while I don’t think its revolutionary or up there with Pixar films like Soul or Up, it’s doesn’t have to be, because everything I thought would happen in this movie, didn’t happen(And that’s a good thing). I did not like the 2017 movie, because it felt out of place and didn’t match the tone of the show, and to top it all off, you had to have seen the show to understand it and even then, there were many parts that made no sense. But with “A New Generation”, you don’t have to know anything about G4 or anything about Pony in general, you just have to want a fluffy good story. This was a real heart warmer, and I was pleasantly surprised by the characters.
These two went against stereotypes on many ways. Queen Haven is a step in the right direction. And yes she is very non aggressive, if she was, she would have been plotting war against the other ponies, or would have wanted a fight with Sprout, she’s pretty much against violence.
In a way, I would compare Hitch Trailblazer to Flynn Rider (Eugene) if not a bit more responsible.

It’s interesting how the story follows Sunny but it’s the ponies around her that get all the character development. I’m not complaining, as Sunny is the best protagonist in terms of setting up backstory organically.
You may appreciate the Queen Haven appreciation thread I just made.
One of the things I liked about ANG is that it showed leadership that wasn’t malicious or intentionally stupid. Even the most malicious leader was quick to change her mind once she saw what going to war would entail. FiM really liked to force ponies to make obviously idiotic choices, especially if such a choice would move them out of the way to let a Mane 6 member take centre stage.
Him almost having a tea party with them could very well just be a one time thing and Hitch doesn’t think anything of it. It was a in-the-moment situation and the characters were busy dealing with the plot. As there’s no show or webisodes yet to show how the characters will interact or act on their own, we don’t really know the characters all that well.
He almost did the tea party with them, and almost used a pink mug. Sorry but to many males that is a “BETA” move.
What? He doesn’t do that, and he was just an unwilling tagalong. Everything he did with the girl was plot-related. He did more things when he was with Sunny and Sprout, then he did when he was with only the girls. What did he do with them again? No really, what? No games, no chit-chats, nothing.

Correct. Back then a guy, e en today would want to assume leader role, if not your considered a “beta” by other.
Perhaps not gravitating to a leader role is being seen as more feminine here.
Meaning he hangs with girls, participates with them and other things, back then that was considered unmanly.
LOL
Being willing to play with Sunny as a colt and willing to do a tea party with the other Manes(Back in the old days early 2000s and even G4’s era) males pretty much thought they were above that.
Yeah. Honestly Hitch feels a lot like the main protagonist than Dunny does in some ways. He easily has the most developed and satisfying character arcs.
Exactly! I would say this is where G5 greatly improved over G4(Which stunk at male characters) and let’s not forget Argyle, a truly great father, and a commendable single father, who despite having the town think he’s nuts still holds his ideas to his heart and encourages his daughter to do the same.
