Although elements are in the comic that are not in Jetfire’s story (the Nightmare race being a major one and the comic’s generally quick pacing), there is nothing stopping Rarity from having a similar demeanor or even a tragedy of good will.

Unless you mean this specific design, in which case, I do think Nightmare Rarity would work well as an alicorn, to the point that I wouldn’t be surprised if only editorial mandate prevented it.
