They’re hiring CG groom specialist, so they’re definitely planning to have proper manes and stuff, not plastic hair.
all their previous customers were low-budget cheapskates
That was the case for Boulder Media too, before the movie came out

Oh, they do? I had thought they owned eOne, but that Boulder was an independent contractor. In that case, it might be easier (though not entirely free from red tape) to loan assets to another company, provided the technology is at all compatible.

That would be great, but might not be possible, either for technical reasons or for legal copyright reasons.
Even though both companies are doing their work for the same client (Hasbro), the assets created for the movie would usually remain the intellectual property of Boulder Media, which Hasbro can’t simply pass on to another company to work with.  It really all depends on the contracts and negotiations.

Most likely they will be reusing the same assets from the movie.
I mean isn’t the main reason to have a pilot movie To have better looking models for the show?

All of them have a “plasticky” look. Probably imitating toys.
That is not reassuring in the context of a My Little Pony show! 😱
Let’s just hope that their remit is to get as close to the movie as is possible within the budget, rather than to get as close to Paw Patrol as they can. 😝

What are those other shows?
It may just be my nostalgic attachment to the original 2D anime, but Maya feels okay to me, while the thought of a MLP series looking like Little Charmers terrifies me.
I really hope that the “smooth, shiny plastic surfaces” aesthetic was either a deliberate choice of the clients, or the result of a stingy rendering budget, and not the only thing their CGI production is capable of.

It depends on how much this version of the franchise can get popular so Hasbro can make money out of it. Sometimes even if its popular, Hasbro kills it so they can make new toys.
Everyone knows the story why Optimus Prime was killed in the 1984 movie of Transformers. Its because Hasbro wanted to sell new toys. New toys means new molds are required. New molds mean old molds get replaced in factories.
The movie set a pretty high bar for G5. I hope G5 series is as good. But if it turns out to be only eye candy in baby mode stories, people will be dissapointed.

Zipp is g5 BP
The 65 episode syndication order isn’t as important as it used to be, and TBF wasn’t that strict a rule either for cable shows. TV works a lot differently now than it did back when g4 began.

@Enmity1498
No… it wouldn’t, BUT, MLP FIM itself had about… four seasons worth of original content. The rest was slice of life and rehashes, not that that’s a bad thing, if one likes the characters and setting.

Okay…by that logic I ask you this: what do you do when the 2 seasons run out? Do you just kill off MLP then and there? I don’t think that would be a wise move, my friend.

Why are people arguing about this? I am sure that G5 will get more than 2 seasons-after all, Hasbro wants it to last 10 years (as that is the average length of a pony generation). So there will likely be 9 season, concluding in 2030.

AFAIK, the 65 episodes is the minimum you need before you can sell the show to other TV networks in the US. Since they probably don’t have plans to show it anywhere else other than Netflix, there is no need to stick to that number.
