Why can’t Sunny be more like this in the show?

I love the idea of her making people become better versions of themselves with her friendship speeches. Even those others deemed too far gone.

That’s an oft overlooked point, the opening implied they were friends, or at least tried to be, before circumstances separated them.

Am I right in noting a trend in exaggerating just how evil Sprout actually was? A jerk yes, but only committed villainy because his family and society pressured him to that point, and he showed as much remorse as the rest of the earth ponies after the dust settled (it did a poor job of showing why, but that’s a separate issue).

Oh, Trixie. Her debut episode makes the Mane 6 look terrible rather than her. She’s a performer, she’s suppose to show off. If they don’t like it, they can just leave. Don’t compare Trixie and Sprout. Trixie got her business ruined and sought an extreme revenge, and her personality made her difficult for the characters to work with for quite a while. Sprout was doing his job, and even though he was the last to realize it, he figured that he took things too far and ceased what he was doing, and showed some remorse. Sprout has potential, and his development needs to be approached with care.

My episode idea was a commentary on cancel culture. There are people irl that believe people should be punished for something they did 10 years ago or 20 years ago and no matter what they do, they don’t forgive. In my episode idea, Sprout shows how stupid people like that are.

What can I say? The average background pony is dumb. If they’re not a main character, they get swept up or tricked by something. But even they can change once they learn their lesson. Imagine the town ponies welcome Sprout as a hero after he chases away an ursa major attacking the town with his mech.

No, I’m not against a redemption arc, I’m against the town acting like jerks towards Sprout. It makes me think of how Ponnyville all of a sudden was populated with a-holes for the episode “Putting Your Hoof Down”. Surely someone knows how to make a redemption arc without making the characters unlikable.

They shouldn’t remain that way for the entirety of the series, or you can’t prevent it from happening again.

And your entire first half of your comment is rejecting a redemption arc because “magic, friendship and trust are restored”, that doesn’t mean everyone gets a pass. That would be the worst of g4 writing on display.

The details of the separation were unimportant for the movie. And who said just because something is restored it means nothing bad can happen? If you want to keep the message/lesson intact, you have to be careful with how you handle the characters.

Well, if ponies were naturally that smart and thoughtful, they would never have separated in the first place.

And you can’t just say everything’s ‘restored’ all at once so nothing bad can happen.

AWFUL IDEA. The ending of the film seemed to imply that now that magic, friendship and trust are restored, the ponies are willing to put the past behind them for the sake of moving forward and getting a fresh start. Sprout was a victim and a byproduct of the society and ideologies he grew up with, just like everypony else in the movie

Not only is hating on Sprout counterproductive and hypocritical, it makes the ponies around him seem like jerks. Why exactly is Sprout being portrayed as undeserving of a second chance? First the original horrendous ending that thankfully never made it into movie and now fanmade episode plots. This episode idea is on par with some of the worst G4 episodes you can think of.

I’m so glad they didn’t go through with the original horrendous ending, so there will be the possibilities for scenes like this.
