I love Sprout but the story of this is that I see a lot of people hating him because he didn’t get punished for his bad actions. So, will seeing him beat up finally make people happy? Would you save him or leave him?

This guy is starting to grow on me a bit. He should be punished I mean he almost killed others because of his racist views but I don’t think he should be abused, that’s just too far for him

Well, not everyone uses violence as a tool of punishment, however when Sprout used a robot to hurt or kill somebody just to protect with lies and childish shit, then after the damage was done, my guess someone came beating the living hell out of him, because he’s not cutout to be a sheriff or a tyrant, but then again, Hitch did kick him out as a police officer, due to his lack of loyalty and what he did was abusive to Maretime Bay citizens, I’ll bet his mother entrust him too much, what if this ending where Sprout quit as a sheriff or deputy, packs up whatever he has and leaves Maretime Bay never to come back as a punishment.

Think about the scrapped ending, really think about it. With or without context it presented things as black and white, which so goes against the movie’s lesson. There was no “we”, there was still “us vs them”, it just became “everypony vs Sprout” at that point.
I would have said the ending would have been somewhat decent if the rest of the movie and especially the characters were written around that ending, but that would have resulted in at best a mediocre movie and most likely some unlikable characters.
Whoever was responsible for that ending not making it into the movie, you have my blessing.

They made it look like Sprout was to blame for everything, and was undeserving of a second chance.
That is literally not what is happening.
Based on what I read about the original scrapped ending, its totally correct that if they stuck with this, it would have been a hypocritical message. Why would anyone punish a guy that made a mistake? A mistake he made because he didn’t know the truth. Imagine someone punishing you because you were tricked into making a mistake.
Of course the scrapped ending was probably based on other scrapped ideas. Alphabittle was supposed to be a blind unicorn, not a hustling gamer. So who knows if the ending would suit the original story more.

I don’t know what the hell you think was happening, but it still sucks. That scrapped ending is god awful because Sprout was not written as the type of character to be properly deserving of any of that crud. And those smugs that Hitch and Izzy made after she made Sprout apologize against his will using magic, made them look like total jerkasses.
I’ve never been so infuriated and repulsed by a scrapped concept. Whether Sprout deserved some kind of comeuppance for what he did, that disgusting ending is not worth existing just for that. There are better ways to do it, ones that don’t ruin the movie or the characters.

For those who have seen what the ending originally would have been, it’s like they totally forgot that fear and mistrust were the conflict of the movie, not a single individual. Every pony was a byproduct of the society and ideologies they grew up with.
They made it look like Sprout was to blame for everything, and was undeserving of a second chance. The ponies around him seemed like hypocrites and smug jerks.
If they actually had gone with that ending, I believe it would have been one of those cases of a movie ruined by its ending.

So how come he’s the only one getting punished? Why not punish the pegasus sisters for tricking their people? Why not punish everyone in that movie that committed theft?
Again I stand by the movies message of unity and anti-bigotry. Bigots think that whenever there’s a problem, all you have to do is blame it on someone and then punish that someone and the problem gets magically gets solved. Don’t be a bigot. You cannot seriously believe the problems of their world that cause Sprout to do what he did will be solved by punishing him.

@hironakamura
Even if you’re willing to absolve him under the circumstances for the riot he incited and the ensuing property damage, Sprout unhesitatingly offered no quarter to an enemy clearly displaying a total lack of combative intent after the mob had fled. That’s a warcrime, and it’s his most serious infraction of those three.

Thank you. The ending shows that now that magic has returned, ponies are looking forward to a fresh start, so it makes sense why nobody was holding any grudges and are simply moving on.

I think that ending would only work if the opening scene was absent in the movie. Sprout is not just some random pony. He is also Hitch and Sunny’s friend who is a victim of toxic parenting. He is not an “other.” Don’t lose sight of the movie’s message. There is no “us vs them” there is only “we.” With the movie’s message of unity, it is very good at revealing (for a lack of a better term) irl bigots who think problems can be solved by blaming it on someone then punishing that someone. Problems don’t get fixed that way. It just makes the polarization worse.
