Well, one possible explanation is the common trope of nobles “Keeping it in the Family” to preserve their bloodline, thus less loss of power a bloodline has over generations of dilution from the original powerful member the family stems from.

Obviously because they’re royalties, I guess. That’s kind of a trope that royalties have incredible powers. I mean Celestia and Luna can raise the sun and the moon after all.

That makes sense. I think I get it now. It’s kind of just magic being wild and douchebag noble brandishing their wild magic to hurt children. Twilight is not a noble but her magic is so strong she feels like a noble, because she is Twilight. Twilight’s magic is also so wild because someone attacked her in the past. And Rarity wasn’t affected because she was never in Twilight’s “orbit” now that I looked at it closely. Finally, an “orbit” is basically just a barrier of magic that can mess with a unicorn and cause, as Spike said “residual spasm”. It’s usually controllable but again not for Twilight because she was injured in the past.  
I think that’s the gist of it.

Some people are talking about the complicated and unexplained stuff and I’m just sitting here watching Spike most of the time, seeing what will he do next.

I don’t see why this is confusing to anyone. It’s just a magic bubble filled with the individual’s strength. That noble was a nasty person so it hurt the pony who came into contact with it, and Twilight is super powerful so hers is more vibrant than usual to those who are able to see the bubbles.

Overly complicating for…seemingly no reason.

But if one has to use this much effort to pull back their aura, wouldn’t that mean that noble didn’t really have a choice? Should we really blame whoever the noble is when controlling aura is so draining? And if that’s the case why isn’t Rarity affected? Sorry but this is getting confusing for me like everyone else.
