Gillian Berrow? One of the writers of the show? Apparently she stuck around and also worked on writing the movie. I guess it makes sense she will lend her voice for a minor character.
 
And I went to look at literally the first shot of the guards and the first of the movie we got in general. The blue one does have a bit of eyelashes if looked more closely. Safe to say we were wrong the entire time and this guard is really a mare. :P  

This guard’s name is “Thunder”
 
I went back and looked at the scene where they first appeared and Zoom called him: Thunder

I decided to see who voices that pony and took a look at the credits and if I’m correct then it was Gillian Berrow. The name next to her was “Zoom” which I’m pretty sure it’s the blue guard.
 
I know women VA can do guy voices but, I’m starting to think the blue guard is actually a mare. Though I was having a hard time trying to spot eyelashes that would make it obvious.

I wonder if the blue guard is also a dude. That guard sounds very feminine to me.
 
But yeah, this guard is adorable. I love it when he actually started having good interactions with Izzy and Sunny. :P

I wonder if the guards of the Pegasus kingdom are reusing old equipment that was formerly worn by the Royal Guards during the age of Celestia and Luna. It is definitely possible, since (by the look of it) Zephyr Heights is simply Canterlot under a different name, and the palace used by the Pegasus Queen is the former Royal Palace once used by Celestia and Luna, followed by Twilight. Hopefully we will see more of that Palace in the G5 TV series next year.
