I will concede that it’s not as bad as Twilicorn in terms of it being dropped in our lap after getting to know her in one form, but that it really depends on how you appreciate Twilicorn going forward. As someone who was fine with Twilicorn even if I agree that her setup should’ve been better, I don’t really see it as a problem, personally.

The Amazon page for the Sing ’N Skate Sunny Starscout toy (which has horn and wings) states: ”Imagine Sunny Starscout is skating and singing around town while discovering her new Alicorn powers, inspired by the My Little Pony: A New Generation movie.“
 
Which, with the phrasing “inspired by” could have meant it’s just toy BS but it sure seems like even if she doesn’t get a physical transformation, she may be able to manifest non-earth abilities, going forward.

No, it’s basically following the same trajectory as Twilicorn with it being spoiled by the merchandise, the only difference here is that we weren’t accustomed to Sunny as an Earth pony first.

No we won’t. We’ll REEEE about it incessantly, bringing up things like “Faust wouldn’t have approved of this” and shit like that, all the way up until a villain who is a thinly veined stand-in for Stalinism is reformed…and then we’ll REEEE about that for about three years too.

Same opinion as in the previous post that it had half the dislikes, and that coincidentally has disappeared. Absolutely ridiculous ahahahahaha xD.

Interesting possibility. Literally invisible/intangible, in comparison to Twilight Sparkle, where it seems like half the slice of life stories where she interacted in public had her wings be figuratively invisible (looking at those rude Manehattenites for one).

I have so many questions about alicornified Sunny Starscout! I wonder if she can “turn off” that horn and those wings, as they seem to be made of energy and actually aren’t part of her body.

Now that’s very surprising, but we do not yet know if Sunny is in “power-up” mode in this picture. Even if she only got temporary alicorn powers, it really means that she is an alicorn first and foremost, just incomplete. But we do not yet know if she has become a permanent alicorn. For if; it turned out to be quite fun; she is so magically strong, that she may have greater difficulty in learning her powers without a teacher, and politically the governments of Equestria may have to deal with a possible alicorn kingdom soon. The whole world must relate to the return of a being who was divine in the eyes of many in ancient times.
 
Instinctively, the ponies will look at Sunny as a leader, but it had been so long since the last alicorn, that they would first see if she could prove herself to them as Celestia and Luna had done. The royal sisters gained all power after defeating Discord, and were able to rule unilaterally. Because she’s going to have a “final” opponent at the end of G5, and we still don’t know how the ponies lost their magic. Was it a hostile attack from a powerful enemy? Who could be the boss villain of the Ponyverse?
 
A little too much, Hasbro. A bit to much.

The alicorns do not have glowing horn and wings, so it is obviously a “pony-up” or what many thought was a “power-up” of a temporary nature, but since Sunny here has been able to keep her alicorn powers, it meant that this does not is transient, but permanent - until she will be a permanent alicorn forever. Then she will have a lot in common with the saiyans from the Dragon Balls, especially if she wants to become an alicorn unless this is necessary. I think the glow will disappear eventually, especially in the TV series, but that just means that Sunny will “evolve” to the point where she can ascend for a second time, perhaps at the end of the G5.
 
Sunny is a better “Deus ex Machina” than Discord in the face of future villains and crises where magic is needed, as she can “power up” or “pony up” when needed. Magically, she is now the most powerful pony in all of Equus, and her ascension has undoubtedly been witnessed by perhaps several million ponies and non-ponies because it appears that there was vigil everywhere in the late night when it happened. Possibly the ponies’ instincts had warned them that something special was about to happen. And by many magicians around the world who may find this unacceptable.
 
But in contrast to Twilight Sparkle, Sunny could be a normal pony of her own choice as she can remain an earth pony as with Clark Kent and Superman. Sunny now needs to learn how to use her alicorn powers, and the whole Ponykind needs to do the same. She will be like a Tyrannosaur among sparrows, so I think she will not become an alicorn completely voluntarily in the first place. But there are villains in the Ponyverse that only a Tyrannosaur can confront. Besides, she has her friends who we now know have several problems that they need to get over, we know that Pipp and Zippy do not have a good relationship with each other as sisters. She wants to solve friendship problems and help friends as strangers rather than having all the power in the world.

Seems to be the case. I hardly see them keeping the character around with distracting buzzing wings and horns made of light, they didn’t let the Mane 6 stuck in Rainbow Power forms
