Commission for an anonymous client
In an AU, where Discord’s reformation arc doesn’t go as smoothly, he got his hands on a dangerous magical artifact that was capable of granting wishes in an ironic manner. He couldn’t risk having his magic be traceable in any way. Discord manages to trick Twilight Sparkle into making a wish on the artifact. In conversation with Discord, Twilight remarks that, as the Princess of Friendship, she wished she could inspire and reach more ponies with the magic of friendship than she can now. As a result, the artifact warps reality and turns her into the Statue of Friendship in Manehattan. What better way to spread the message of the magic of friendship and inspire millions of ponies, right?

(Discord snaps his fingers, and the Statue of Friendship returns to normal, and Twilight comes back out…with her mane color now the same color as the oxidized copper that the statue is made of!)
“Oh, great, my fur is all wrong! Ugh…fine, I’ll take this over being the ACTUAL statue any day.”

Definitely. It’s probably mostly that the front of her mane is styled differently. That along with the metal color made me question if it’s actually Twilight for a moment.

Pity it’s a bit hard to recognize that it’s actually Twilight, though.
 
The metal color makes it hard to recognize, but the style of the mane and tail (straight with stripes), plus the fact that she’s an alicorn, unlike the original statue, both help.
