Given how Celestia was unable to stop any threats and had to rely on the Mane 6 to save everyone’s flanks again and again, maybe someone rubs it in that the sisters ended their rules as FAILURES due to how things went for them in the series finale.

This reminds me of some of Hal Foster’s really detailed Prince Valiant comic illustrations. Albeit with less sword-hacking, at least for the moment :)

A cover does not represent 100% a story and the way things are going, it is obvious that they do not bring in those villains because the main focus would be the guardians.
 
Meanwhile, I really don’t understand why to introduce Daybreaker as an antagonist. That is, a dark side of the character can be interesting only if she goes through the same process as her sister but instead of the issue of jealousy, it is because of the unattainable desire to be stronger to protect her kingdom without mercy. Being able to take advantage of the continuity to show that Celestia is too worried about the attacks and has to work hard to protect her reign.
 
But the series never took advantage of that and it doesn’t even make sense to try to apply that in season 10 since she is in retirement so Twilight would be the one who should rule. So without a factor about being so personal that turns her into a tragic transformation such as Nightmare Moon was, what is the grace of Daybreaker? Just being an evil and powerful version of Celestia? If I get the character because someone made Celestia evil, then she’s Daybreaker trash as a concept, a copypaste that doesn’t understand the potential of Nightmare Moon.

That “someone” was Starlight Glimmer dreaming that Luna would turn into Nightmare Moon again and Celestia will turn into Daybreaker which that will never happen again with Luna and Celestia herself said she will never turn into Daybreaker.

The NMM and Daybreaker that Celestia “vaporized” were not real, just figments of someone’s dream that Celestia vaporized via Luna’s magic.  
The REAL NMM and Daybreaker is still possible though.

Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker were vaporized by Celestia, King Sombra was killed by the Mane Six for the Tree of Harmony’s avenge, the Storm King was smashed into pieces, Ahuizotl, and Mirror Celestia and Luna know peace, the Pony of Shadows was still trapped in limbo, the Dazzlings’ powers were destroyed by the Rainbooms, Midnight Sparkle was vaporized/overpowered by both Daydream/Sunset Shimmer and later Sci-Twi with the Magic of Friendship, Cosmos was still banished on the moon, the real Gaea Everfree’s fate remains unknown in the human world, Rabia and Aida along with the Umbrum army were still imprisoned in their realm, and finally, the show’s/franchise’s main villains Queen Chrysalis, Lord Tirek, and Cozy Glow were imprisoned into a statue of stone and possibly arrested for unknown reasons. And Grogar’s fate still remains unknown since Fusty the Great banished him thousands of moons ago. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see. And maybe the Knights of Harmony will become the overarching antagonists of the franchise.

I hoped for that myself :( personally, i like the villains more in comic form their expression are better.

I had hoped they’d try to reform the Legion of Doom in the comics…it seems unlikely now they will.

Yep. They forgot about her. And they also forgot about the Pony of Shadows, Midnight Sparkle, the Dazzlings, Princess Eris, Rabia and Ira, the Plinderseeds, the Windigos, and possibly Grogar. And also, Mirror Celestia, Mirror Luna, and Ahuizotl were reformed.

IDW: Of course, Ahuizotl is a big bad and there is no such thing as Cozy Glow.

I had a hunch it would happen sooner or later. It always seems that after a crossover series they pull the plug. I never really read the comics myself, I just could never seem to get into them. But when you consider the massive scrutiny the series has endured these last 3 to 4 years, it was just a matter of time before they decided to end the series. I’m well aware that there are fans of the comic, but when a comic isn’t selling well? It tends to get discontinued.
