Pardon me for playing referee, but if you wouldn't mind, I'd ask you leave politics out of this discussion. Bringing it up unless it's absolutely necessary is a surefire way of derailing a comment section.

Yes, but it also had some political diversity, otherwise we wouldn't have conservative Bronies.

(When it comes to both political parties, I'm not a big fan of the Republican Party of today and I've been losing faith with the Democratic Party even though I am a Democrat and voted Democrat for both 2016 and 2020. I focus mostly on the political philosophies that the majority in both parties adhere to. I'm more of a left-leaning moderate. Either I should go Independent or there should be a centrist party).

I mean to be fair, wasn`t the show conceived by a feminist?

(Not a Republican/Democrat, hate them both, more of a apolitical kind of guy, voted Independent during the 2016 election, would`ve voted via write for a fictional character in the 2020 election since it was a big fucking joke, but eh, you know work, just wanted to point that out before I do get called conservative or whatever)

Maybe you're right. Forgot about that. Even the reason I wasn't too thrilled about Rainbow Dash being depicted as a lesbian because she's a tomboy, especially since we have conservative naysayers condemning the show as liberal. But even if that were the case, Sunset being bisexual would work for both Flashimmer and Sciset fans.

I love the idea that Sunset's bisexual, especially since her personality seems to resonate with that orientation. I don't care if people disagree with that, Sunny is bi!

I think the unspoken bit is "obvious as we could make it", in this case; it's why you see the Twitter confirmation so often.
I suppose that could be the case. I've always just taken the statement as is, which is part of the reason I've always been a bit confused where exactly they made it "pretty obvious". And you make an excellent point about them having to skirt the line a bit because of the medium they're working in and the general attitudes of big companies in that regard. Maybe they really did try to convey that while still remaining within the set parameters of the show, and thought they had left enough hints to make it clear. I'm still not sure I see that myself, but I'd certainly never say it's been disproven either.

But it does make me wonder how much of what the staff thought was being made abundantly clear is dependent on a perspective I seem to be lacking.

To be fair, they're speaking from the perspective of working on children's programming and dealing with the regulations thereof; what they might perceive as being more obviously romantic could easily come off as platonic to some fans just due to how the creators have to skirt around regulations they're still ultimately beholden to; FiM and EG are, ultimately, still series made to market a line of toys at the end of the day after all.

We as fans can write Sunset as explicitly bi, straight, lesbian or whatever we want her to be because we're totally out of Hasbro's control; the staff actually writing the show have to make sure the bigwigs sign off on stuff before they go ahead with it. And big companies are generally pretty damn risk-adverse, especially if the thing in question is meant to be advertising toys.

I think the unspoken bit is "obvious as we could make it", in this case; it's why you see the Twitter confirmation so often.

Stuff like using romantic tropes like with the kitchen scene in Rainbow Rocks is a good identifier for bonafide ship fuel, because it's intentionally setting up the idea of a ship between these two characters in a way that's both clear and yet not just being outright about it (hence fueling the ship).

Or having Twilight get all blushy when Sunset compliments her, as another Sunset/PonyTwi example.

See, and those examples are kind of illustrative of the overall problem I seem to have. To me, neither of those ever really seemed like "ship fuel". I would have described the Rainbow Rocks kitchen scene as Twilight and Sunset having a moment of shared camaraderie over the fact that they're both concerned (albeit for different reasons) that, despite efforts to the contrary, they might ultimately "let everybody down". And as for the blushing at a compliment, I have to admit my first thought is much less a matter of romantic interest and much more an assumption of Twilight's lingering discomfort with praise that an entire season 1 episode revolved around.

That's not to say I think you're wrong, of course. Knowing your perspective now, that could easily be the "obvious" stuff I missed. But it does make me wonder how much of what the staff thought was being made abundantly clear is dependent on a perspective I seem to be lacking.

That actually still implies. It's thing Hasbro does called "Cross-Pollination" where popular ideas and concepts from one work gets adopted in future works and retconned into older ones. It's not talked about much in most cartoons cuz their primary audiences are still children to sell toys to and that romance and gender talks aren't the subject. Though Knock Out from Prime was always implied to be "gay" and Acid Storm and Skywarp in Cyberverse were genderbent into female characters.

I'll be honest though, I'm still not sure where it was made "pretty obvious" on the show itself that she was bisexual. It doesn't bother me if she is, but unless I'm completely missing something obvious, I really never saw it myself.

I feel like the main problem is that a fair few people see benign friendship stuff in this series as "shipping fuel" when it really isn't all that fuel-y, especially considering how intimate this show is when it comes to friendships (none of these are tagged "shipping fuel");

The show isn't exactly afraid to have characters who are friends hug each other or hold hands without having a air of romance or shipping tacked on. For it to be bonafide ship fuel, it kinda has to go above and beyond the standard. And there's been that kinda thing both ways with Sunset, it's just been overshadowed;

Or in this case outright having a character blush and fanboy over another acknowledging them; it's pretty clear that this is meant to be a bit of shipping fuel. And if Character A (a female) has shipping fuel with Character B (a male) and Character C (another female), then making Character A bisexual is the easy choice to make because then your fueling of both ships between A and B and A and C make sense in-universe.

Even as someone who is Bisexual yeah I don't really remember any majorly obvious hints off the top of my head. Maybe they had some kind of Bisexual Lighting (Using Blue/Purple/Pink lighting on a character) at some point that I'm just not remembering.
I'm actually glad to know I'm not the only one confused by that. When that comment first appeared I spent a fair amount of time re-watching some of the Equestria Girls stuff trying to figure out what if anything I had missed, and I could never figure out what was supposed to make her being bisexual obvious.

Personally I still think it's much more believable as a "we hinted at it, but you get to decide for yourself whether she is or isn't" situation, especially since they went that route with other characters.

apparently its real

I`m more concerned about both Acid Storm and Knock Out being such, like where in the hell were those two confirmed?

That actually comes from the IDW comics. See they introduced the idea that Transformers are genderless, cuz they're inorganic robots. They had no concept of gender so to them, there's no "Male" and "Female" just how they act/process data. They only adopted gender terms from contact with organic lifeforms.

Another, though this did not originate from the IDW, is that they reproduce differently from organics. They don't reproduce sexually, new Transformer life is created when the Well of Sparks periodically spews new "Sparks" or Transformer souls that are harvested and placed in protoform bodies. So Transformers form relationships solely based on who they love and want to spend their lives with, this is called "Conjux Endura," so there can be male-female, male-male, and female-female. No one would bat an eye, or optic, because that's normal for them.

So after a super long explanation, it's why Knockout and Acid Storm are "gay" even though they're not called such by other Transformers(cuz such a term does not exist for them)

It is surprising to me that they allowed that confirmation for Sombra but didn't do it for Rainbow Dash and Applejack which is both more obvious in show (as in you can at least argument they are from the conversation they had in The Last Problem) and it has the same kind of Twitter confirmation
