It’s grumpy old Cranky Doodle Donkey back when he was a young jack.
Here he is. This is perhaps the very first time anybody attempted to do a vector of young Cranky. It’s so unfair that we didn’t get to see more young adult jacks throughout the series, especially with this design. It’s certainly a better design than the mule design that would be used for older Cranky. Let’s face it, donkeys have almost always been depicted in popular culture as dirty, ugly, and weird-looking, as well as stubborn and stupid; even Bray from My Little Pony n Friends was designed like that. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, however, actually gave us a less unsightly depiction through Cranky Doodle back in his youth, and the same can definitely be said about his very special somedonkey. ;) There should’ve been more in the show.
There’s another reason I find the brief appearance of young donkeys inequitable is due to the scarcity of references. The only time we see young adult donkeys, and especially young Cranky and Matilda, was in a mere flashback which didn’t portray them in the pose you see here, so I had to figure it out by going through a collection of screenshots I found and made through videos. Not to mention said flashback was treated like an old 30’s black-and-white film, so the resolution was weaker than typical and it was rather tricky to find the outlines for some parts of his body and how thick they were. So in all honesty this is NOT 100% accurate, but it is the best I could do.
Now as I mentioned in my journal post, I got to work on Cranky and Matilda back in February. I had to make some occasional tweaks here and there, and I wanted to wait for the right time to upload this. So I’m pretty sure at this point I would be the first to make a vector of a young adult donkey. But this will not be the last. I think you know whose coming up next. So get ready.
