Daring Do mentions it also has to do with him keeping his hold over the Fortress of Talacon, and the fortress collapses in the end when they remove the rings. Maybe the unrelenting sweltering heat is just a side effect and their real goal is to keep that Fortress in one piece. Thank goodness Daring Do was able to destroy the culturally significant landmark of a guardian spirit and an entire culture of natives in order to stop a heat wave they all wanted on their own land that had nothing to do her, the rest of Equestria, or anyone who didn't want the heat wave, the frigging jerk :P
