Ha jokes on you, I already have hoof fetish.  
But these hooves are so dirty and rough I don’t know what to feel. :P  
I do wonder how a frog of a hoof feels though. Is it as hard as the whole hoof or actually really soft like how cartoon pony hooves look? Horse hooves are intriguing man!

Wait so frogs are actually the middle of their hooves instead of the entire sole. I definitely don’t know horse anatomy well enough lol.  
I like hooves better like that though. The hooves in the show are already anatomically inaccurate so it doesn’t really matter how artists draw them. Hooves are definitely not soft and full of fur like the show makes them look, but I like it better that way. I also like the “butt-looking” hooves most artists draw. I just find them super cute for some reason.

Since there seems to be a discussion on the anatomical differences between how many artists draw our favorite little ponies and IRL equine friends, here are some ones that are either too subtle or too blatant to receive a comment:  
  • Chest fluff is present (unlike show-accurate art) when they grow their winter coat (especially in Shetland ponies) but not in the quantities most chest fluff artists draw  
  • ML ponies have a greater diversity in coat coloration but little ponies with coat markings are far rarer than real horses with the same markings.  
  • IRL equine frogs are wider than how most artists draw on the underhoof: for a more anatomically accurate frog, think of a thin isosceles triangle for the long part of the frog with a wide arrow for the heel bulbs.  
  • Real-life horses do not lay down with their legs straight behind them (like this image): that’s a pose for highly-relaxed rabbits. I could be wrong, but it’s not so much as IRL horse legs can’t bend that way so much as IRL horses don’t stretch their legs in that direction when laying down.
     
    None of this is a value judgment. It’s a long-winded reminder that horse art (so ignoring humanized, anthro, & EqG) lies on a spectrum that can be described in the following buckets/tags of increasing abstraction from reality:  
  1. hoers  
  2. FiM-inspired: this image and what little we’ve seen of the G5 both belong in this bucket  
  3. FiM-accurate: can’t use show-accurate anymore since the different shows have blatantly different visual languages  
  4. cartoon: Pony Life belongs here

The best things about horse anatomy are all around the backside anyway, crotchboobs for example.

I mean, I draw a little unnecessary fluff on the characters I draw, too. I never said he was downright correct, I’m just saying horses aren’t fluffy irl like people portray them in the fandom through artwork, animation etc by basically gluing a wig to their chest and calling it a day lol

In a factual sense, he’s kinda on the right track tbh. The very large majority of horses (even those fluffy-looking shires/drafts) don’t have that stuff. Plus, loads of artists overdo chest fluff pretty hard and it’s basically just catponies/dogponies.
 
It’s cute, sure, but sticking to the horse features keeps it My Little Pony and not My Little Kitty/Doggy lol

I like the original better. Yakovlev’s style doesn’t work with show accurate designs. It’s too unique and static to be changed into this style. Which removes a lot of personality from the original picture.
