What?! No… It can’t be…
ponies had phones the 90s. and they where button phones! and diel phones
But we add to phone’s those flip phones could still call people and take pictures and we Still have phones that are just phones.
We still look at those old phone in old TV shows and know they are phones even those big blocky mobile phones.

As much as I wish it weren’t true, it is. But we can’t sit here and do nothing if parents can’t bother… regardless, this is life now. Disagree all you want, but it is what it is. No amount of escapism or sugarcoating will change that. Other than that I don’t think we’d get much farther than this, so I’ll respectfully stop responding after this.
I think you are deliberately twisting my words; I want parents to do their jobs as parents, but a lot of them today simply cannot be asked and leave their children to be raised by their phones.
That is the problem.
And since extremism is on the rise (as I listed below), due to this lack of parental supervision, children will grow up to become bad people.
It probably will date it, not that it’s a big deal or anything but look at how dated shows are that use flip phones. In another 20 or even 10 years, we could be using phones that look totally different from the ones these days.
So what do we do? Sit here and do nothing? Not teach our children and let the world fall deeper into shit? And the fact that you say it’s pretty much all parents do that no isn’t even a little bit true. I know that I certainly didn’t get a real phone till I was like 15-16, and my parents were very involved in my life, almost creepily so up until maybe a year ago. And even then… not much changed. I just got back from family vacation, so I know for fact. But I’m getting off topic… if parents don’t do anything, how do we teach children? Since parenting isn’t a solution apparently. Oh. You don’t have a solution? I figured since you believe so heartily that parents can’t be relied upon, you’d have a way to teach them.

And I believe I made it clear that barely any parent does supervision anymore.
“Sparing children and not telling them about the problems of the world won’t help them once they’re grown up.”
@Calypso The Zebra Hybrid
You chose to focus on the latter half of what I said specifically while ignoring the fact I said supervision is necessary. I never said I’d be easy to teach to children but it needs to be done.

we not going to just stop using smartphones.
A smartphone is not a fucking trend They are just phones now

But since they’re on their phones 24/7, all they’ll here is: “white privilege”, “abolish the patriarchy”, “criticism is racist/sexist”, “fonts are insensitive”, “history is problematic, it must be erased”, “communism is the way”, “maths is racist”, “man bad, woman good”, “white bad, black good”, “straight bad, gay good”.
And due to lack of proper parenting, they’ll latch onto those ideologies and spread them further cause they don’t know any better, and grow up believing in them.
Tell me with a straight face that that will lead to a better world.
Your viewpoint is why the world is the way it is. Children are capable of complex thought, they don’t need to be cradled constantly. Supervision is necessary, but you need to give children more credit. Sparing children and not telling them about the problems of the world won’t help them once they’re grown up.
Hense why the world is going to shit, because children are raised by their phones rather than by their parents.
So I won’t apologise for wanting media to present something positive and non-dangerous for the young generation to latch onto.
Smartphones, social media; aren’t they one in the same?
Firstly, the mass majority of those things existed before smartphones were even a conceivable thought, excluding “cancel culture”. And like it or not, older people are not the target audience, children are. And unfortunately for you, this is what children are into nowadays. And since when are you the one that gets to exclude something from cartoon just cause you disagree? If you really were an expert, you’d be MAKING shows, not bitching about them on derpibooru and speaking with me.

Are you sure that’s not social media you’re thinking of?
Either way, this is supposed to be a divided world now, so maybe the cell is a more potent visual cue for the setting than we’re giving it credit.

Pedal powered helicopters; nothing automated there. Also, arcade games have become retro and thus add to the timeless appeal of G4.
But bringing in smartphones will automatically date G5, essentially when 9/10 they will use outdated and “trendy” things that only pander to the lowest common denominator. It’s a miracle Equestria Girls only fell into that trap a couple of times.
Also, smartphones are responsible for the age of segregation, bullying, entitlement, prejudice, regression, cancel culture and privilege, so as someone who wants to use media as a form of escapism, I’d like to see them excluded from new cartoons.
G4 will stand the test of time, G5 won’t if this is what they’re doing.
Huh… never thought of it like that. Okay, you win this round good sir/ma’am. Still, I think this whole “ponies have phones now” thing is a little overblown. I really don’t see the problem, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the plot or story, know what I mean? Seriously, I see people complaining about the fact they have hooves and therefore phones can’t be used, yet nobody complains about the fact that they use keyboards on pianos with those same types of hooves.

That’s because they’re hot air balloons attached to conventional ships.
Actually even less complicated then the mechanics of a propeller.
Alright fine, it’s operated by pedals. But at least explain the airships, those cannot be just pedaling making those things work.
