Discord willingly sided with Tirek and hurt thousands, then brought four of the most dangerous criminals, three of whom were contained and no longer a threat, together to endanger the entire nation and either A) sacrifice them for Twilights ego, or B) allowed one to be killed and torment the Crystal empire again, and broke how many laws to boost twilights ego.[/bq]

The MLP is intended for children, especially girls from 3 to 11 years of age and thus it is natural that the writers should create an "innocent" world with villains and heroes / heroines without reflecting more deeply on either background or consequences, to entertain and then show "examples" of friendship, acceptance, tolerance and learning - most often without going too deep. They do not want an "adult" world for the children, and often end up creating varied impressions that for adults can be a little too shallow.

But the Grogar / Discord deception was simply too much, and far too gross even by the standards set by the MLP G1-G4, here the writers had completely forgotten, and not realized that TV viewers live in a society where children have to learn what is right and wrong, and which is not allowed or possible to accept. Sombra was a frightening and brutal tyrant who gives the word "tyrant" new meaning. Chrysalis was a usurper who represented the opposite of what Celestia is, as a negative reflection of the world of ponies. Discord was funny, annoying and a good example of uncontrolled chaos and anarchy. All the villains represented something that the audience could recognize and learn about, even though Cozy Glow's age was a grave mistake.

What happened in season 9 was simply unbelievably stupid. Instead of making sure that Discord can be neutralized by Grogar who could be his "father" who can defend himself against such a "deus ex machina" as Discord is, in the movie he was completely excluded because the level of strength becomes too uneven. Instead, Discord was turned into a villain, and created a big mess, his reformation was called into question, and his actions could not be accepted. Even in Europe, where one is far more liberal and thus less strict than in the US, this is something that the general moral standard cannot accept, and is punishable. Discord risked his life to release the Mane 6, but it was a big mistake to let the royal sisters listen to him and then not get him punished. This produces bad impressions on the fans and viewers.

This makes the whole thing with the petrification of the Terrible Trio who had undoubtedly tried to kill the Mane 6 and wanted to mutilate Spike to complete the work, controversial. Towards the end, the viewers were completely without sympathy for Discord, the writers did not realize it until it was too late, and the eternal debate about the Grogar / Discord deception becomes inevitable. Discord must be punished, for the good of all. Tempest Shadow was forgiven by the princesses in the movie, but we would have liked to have seen a trial where she confesses to her crimes and is acquitted, in exchange for her promises to help those who were attacked by the Storm king. We should also have seen something similar with Starlight Glimmer.

This is what the writers in Seasons 4-9 had forgotten; they did not realize that world development entailed a modern society with law and code of justice. They had chosen to continue with medieval practice from Seasons 1-3 when the princesses were practically the law by acting as jury, judge and executioner. Without realizing that when the created world is brought so close to human beings' own world, it also means that one must include "adult" things such as law and legislation. Season 1-3 with the exception of the Crystal Empire was almost only about three solitary cities.

Children in our world must be able to understand the difference between right and wrong. Thus, the whole case of Cozy Glow and then the Grogar / Discord deception became much more difficult to understand, the writers had lost perspective on morality and ethics from a human point of view.

The comic here develops over time, so the outcome is uncertain. [/bq]

U know i highly appreciate this comment even if we still disagree on some level you looking at it at a broad point of view u recognize the bad discord did without negating how he risked his life or meant the very best for twilight as ruler or negating how the trio themselves still were monstrous even with frenemies.

U dont just say discord should have been punished u say other characters who should have probably been punished too because thats been kinda my problem with this whole punishment thing as it seems people think only discord should be punished forgetting that if a character shows genuine remorse they pretty much dont get punished by the cast, if they have no remorse they get turned to stone, sealed like sombra etc. While we dont exactly fully agree or maybe even fully disagree i can respect this comment alot.
