No,may changeling attack first, they eat love ,especially pony’s love.
Why ponies should spare those vermin in this fanfiction?
SHOW NO MERCY AT ALL.

@Starswirl
I mean why not? People refuse to actively have the ponies be responsible for anything when logically and frankly historically it would not be possible.

Celestia’s an incompetent fool in the present, I highly doubt she learned any lesson the first time around in the past.

None of the possible excuses for the line from the show have yet been hinted at in the comic. It’s left for readers to write the story around it, because it seems like the story itself wants to go the usual ‘ponies attacked first so they’re at fault for everything’ route. Now, we could still end up surprised, like this isn’t actually the explosive rune trap we all suspect it is but an observation tool. Still bad, but not full-on mass-murder. Or an explosive rune trap set to trigger when/if the changelings attack the group, left to cover their escape. I still have hope for this story.

If you will all recall from earlier in this comic, Chrysalis already distrusts ponies and expects these three to betray her. She is merely offering them the chance to prove her wrong, as her hive is starving and she wants a better way to feed them, and seems to have underestimated their abilities and numbers. She is anticipating this to go south, but not as south as it’s about to go.

Also, her song didn’t say she dreamed of taking over Canterlot specifically, just that it was the kind of day she’d dreamed of. What precisely she dreamed of is ambiguous, and when she started planning the invasion is never stated.

Also she could have been speaking more metaphorically - meaning that in the past she was trusting, like a child, and this betrayal made her grow up and see the world as it was.

Or in other words, show Chrysalis is an edgy teen, rebelling against all notions of the tooth fairy, easter bunny and a loving, benevolent God. And it’s not a phase Celestia! This is how she is now! And close the bedroom door, she has…eh, ‘homework’ to do. Yeah, that’s it.

I sincerely, truly hope it won’t be this event used to justify Chrysalis’s invasion of Canterlot. Especially since she claimed she planned it since she was a child, in case anypony forgot and which has yet to be addressed.

There’s no telling how far back in the past from present day Equestria this is. It could be dozens, even hundreds, of years. That would make Chrysalis’s claim of “planning this since she was child” more possible.

And if the comics are to be believed, she materialized as an adult, along with the rest of the swarm. Who knows what sort of psychological harm that might cause? It would explain why she’s so immature—-she never got to grow and mature to begin with.

We have to realize Chrysalis being thousands of years old could also easily mean she’s basically still a juvenile/young(whichever fits better here, can’t think of a better way to phrase it) Queen at this point.

Since I was small may be her referencing being younger but not necessarily being a child.

Because this story is about how we should feel sad for the bad guys because they have tragic backstories. So the adventurers have to be the bad guys, to “justify” Chrysalis’ invasion of Canterlot.

The in-universe reason is probably that they were hired by the villagers to get rid of the Changelings for some reason.

When, not if, these adventurers betray them, what do they expect to gain from a changeling hive? Unless Chrysalis has an inexplicable habit of collecting golden shinies, there’s nothing in it. Because I doubt you get XP outside of tabletop roleplay.

It seems that Chrysalis and her changelings will have to pay the price for low security.
