You do realize this is equally possible even if Twilight aged normally, right? She could have naturally outlived them, its possible. Would you still have complained then?
i like to think dragons are immortal, or at least Spike gains immortality at some point, somehow becomes a dragon version of an alicorn (imperial dragon?) or something, so him and Twilight are together forever
But would it be that bad if Twi lives forever? Assuming that she is immortal ofc.
With this those 5 will live forever, not as a memento in history, not as a lesson or project in school, not as some statue in some big ass city, but in the memory of an alive and very lovely mare who would never forget her friends for they are the dearest and most precious thing in her life.
And just cause they died, it doesn´t mean that Twi will be alone. Yes, she will be sad but we all are sad if a loved one leaves us (if we would jump around in joy then that would be weird), but sadness doesn´t last forever. And Twi will have many many years to come to make many memories with her friends and to have lots of adventure with them.
And after they´re gone, new ponies, new lands and new adventures awaits. SOme of them might have children to who Twi will look after, she might have an own family just like Celestia did, she might have an own student who she teaches magic and the lessons of friendship. And other, many other ponies who she had and will meet in her life.
But those 5 will always hold a special place in her heart as those were her very first friends.
(before you go btiching on cause of Spike, i see them as family despite being not blood nor race related, a little brother and a big sister combo, very adorable. <3)
There’s been a few references to death already. A Bird in the Hoof was practically THE episode to cover death, and then there’s Applejack’s parents, as well as the number of times ponies have had their lives saved. “Thank you Rainbow Dash, you saved my life,” etc.

As far as we know, ponies age, but there was never a mention of death, and we may never know otherwise, the chances of them (the writers) actually addressing this point within their mitology is close to none.
I like to think the different pony races have different methods of burial, though all the races share the custom of putting their name, and cutie mark upon the gravestone.
Earth pony affairs are often simple with the deceased friends and family recalling fond memories before they are buried in a simple wooden casket and often, some plant seeds scattered across the top. They aren’t leaving. Just going back where they came from for a while.
The pegasi cremate their dead and let their ashes spread onto the wind. Its said that their spirits go too and every gust or breeze carries the words of an ancestor or departed, their spirit finally more free than any living pegasus could dream.
Unicorns are often mummified or preserved in statues. Their life’s work is often scribed upon a tablet or scroll beside, detailing their achievements. Some say a few unicorns can possess the ability to speak with them for advice. The deceased though are quite busy, doing what they loved in the spiritual hereafter.
