God it’ll be like the Privateer sequel all over again. If you need to fling the plot so far into the future that nothing at all is familiar, maybe don’t have that plot share the same timeline.

They can say as much as they want that it take place in the same universe but from a meta point of view, the drastic change of animation style from 2D to 3D make it seems like it’s a completely separate continuity in my mind

Hmmmm… that doesn’t say much. It could be set in the same world as G4, but not be part of the same continuity, you know? Like Grand Theft Auto, some names and locations might have reapeared from the GTA 3 era games over to IV and V but these games share no canon stories or characters.
