The similarity to the toys had me thinking of “Hasbro’s off-brand Toy Story”. That said, I would love to watch a massive crossover of off-brand Hasbro Toy Story where Izzy rides the shoulder of Optimus Prime to rescue Sunny from the Decepticons.
It’s tough to call it a sequel to G4. Different time period, different characters, doesn’t require prior knowledge to enjoy. The only things that are the same are the lore, universe and Equestria. You could call it a sequel if you want, but many people would disagree.
I haven’t watched Avatar myself,, so I can’t assess the accuracy of such statement, but I saw the whole thing compared to a jump from the Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra.

Who said that G5 is like a ripoff to the Beast Era? The Beast Era is the true sequel to the original Transformers cartoon. While Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce, victory, and Zone aren’t because they’re not in our country thank god. I don’t trust or like these Japanese exclusive spin-off sequels because I don’t like how Optimus Prime died three times, Ultra Magnus died twice, and Megatron/Galvatron died in Headmasters. But the animation looks great.
@northern haste
You mean the movie is not a direct sequel to the 2017 movie due to the G4 tv show coming to an end? And the G5 series is not a direct sequel to the G4 series?

It’s a “soft reboot”, because you don’t need to have watched G4 to know what’s going on, and it’s completely new time period and characters. But it’s not a “hard reboot”, because it’s still the same universe and the events of G4 did occur in the past and there will likely be some occasional references.
