It’s been more than a year since MLP G5 was first introduced to the world.
…I actually kinda miss these days. Making theories about the movie, digging around the internet for more leaks, and just…
We’ve came such a long, long way, from that very first day…
@EquusStorm
Well said. These are serious issues that aren’t going away anytime soon, and they won’t go away unless we teach our kids about them. The challenge is how to do it without forceful political agendas.
Remember: allowing people to be open-minded with critical thinking is key. The elites who run the political and media world don’t want the young generation to think critically, because critical thinkers are nigh impossible to manipulate and control. Hence the left-vs-right war of the 2010s.
It’s a phenomenon called entrenchment. The more you try to openly convince someone they’re wrong, the more affirmed they’ll become in their beliefs, especially if it’s coming from a person or group they’re already opposed to. People’s minds can change, but it takes time and a much more subtle approach.
That is going way off topic though so gonna shut up now oops
But that doesn’t work. That’s exactly the kind of thing I was talking about and if racism and xenophobia have gotten worse, that has probably contributed. Changes in thought processes come about through suggesting ideas and new ways of thinking to people. Repeating a message “loudly” and trying to strong-arm them into a belief is not going to change the minds of anyone. It actually makes people less receptive.
@Johnny B. Mediocre
Society unfortunately hasn’t changed much since the year FiM premiered, that’s why showing kids how big of a problem racism and xenophobia are is fundamental.
“In the new movie, the pony world of Equestria has lost its magic. Friendship and Harmony have been replaced by paranoia and mistrust, and Ponies now live separated by species. Sunny — a feisty and idealistic young Earth Pony — is convinced there’s still hope for this divided world, but her slightly misguided and often hilarious efforts to change hearts and minds have led to her being branded a misfit. When Sunny befriends a lost Unicorn named Izzy, who wanders innocently into the Earth Pony town of Maretime Bay, the town has had enough. Izzy and Sunny must embark on an epic adventure that will include a daring jewel heist, outrageous conspiracy theories, elaborate musical numbers, and the world’s cutest flying Pomeranian. Their adventures will take them to faraway lands and force them to challenge the status quo by facing their fears and making new friends out of old enemies. The world Sunny has dreamed of her entire life could finally become a reality as Sunny and her newfound friends fight to prove that even little ponies can make a big difference.”
exactly, G4 did it first - why was it okay to do it in 2010 but not in 2021?
i know but racism and xenophobia are STILL huge problems that need to be tackled. MLP seems like it was more than happy to tackle them in terms of teaching people that racism is bad
Please don’t straw man my comment. I’ve been through this argument too many times, and I’m not getting into it again here. Society’s problems can not be summed up into a handful of convenient evils to attack. That’s all.
“Not everything can be objectively measured and so that’s why we don’t need to teach people racism is bad.”
Twilight was better before she got wings!
That’s exactly what I mean though. People don’t need to be told these things, and it’s patronizing to treat them like they do. Certainly, there is a select group of people that don’t support diversity, but it is not nearly as widespread as it’s portrayed to be by politicians and media. Many social problems in today’s society are conveniently attributed to things like racism and sexism by media, schools, and politicians. It’s not so simple as that. There are thousands of factors that affect someone’s personal situation and people have legitimate reasons for resisting certain changes besides being opposed to diversity. Teaching that less racism and less sexism will magically solve any of societies problems doesn’t get anyone anywhere because it’s a subjective topic and there is no objective way to measure these things.
I’m sure it’ll be in certain other places in less than a day. Netflix isn’t immune to piracy after all.
i treat others with dignity and respect regardless of race because it’s the right thing to do… unless they do somethi9ng that makes me lose respect for them. i judge based on actions not by race. i guess MLP saw that people as a collective are TERMINALLY stupid and had to be taught how to accept people of other races
@whatever4096
what’s wrong with pushing a morally correct message? personally i find it sad that people have to promote diversity in the first place and tell people to NOT be xenophobic or racist assholes. one would think such ideals would be common sense. but alas people are idiots. thus MLP had to step up to the plate and teach people to be alright with diversity… i mean it DID bring in some cool characters.
Most people don’t have a problem with the treating everyone with dignity and respect message, but it’s often done in a way that is very obviously artificial to many people and feels more about pushing an ideology than a message of mutual respect. It’s very possible to have a story and characters that promote these values while feeling natural. It is very clear to me and many other people when stories or characters are written with the intent of preaching. An article on this show mentioned that it will “promote diversity.” In recent years, that has become a recurring sign that the characters and story will feel like political mouthpieces rather than genuine. You should never need to announce that your show will be diverse and inclusive. It should be able to speak for itself.
treating others with dignity is good as long as they do the same the other way, this rule sadly doesnt work in real life look at sweeden or any other european country that tried to live by this rule and only has a right to exist in a land of colorful horses
Gawd I am so hyped for this, the movie at least looks adorable. Hopefully the show follows suit.
Glad to be able to be excited about the new gen after the shit 2020 put everyone through.
