Yeah, but its the same as a lot of G4 fans disliking for example Daring Doubt, the plot was carried in a controversial manner that a lot of people like to pretend it never happened. G4 did some contradictions regarding the overall plot and actually suffered from it so if anything the feeling that G5 isn’t fully connecting actually results in a similar sensation rather than a sudden turnaround.
That is very true. It will be compared to it, but when people focus primarily on G4’s plot instead of G5 for G5, the whole point of a continuation is lost.
Plus in defense of G5, some retcons aren’t entirely their fault as the G5 movie was being written in the middle of Seasons 8 and 9 of FiM, so of course some continuity would inevitably be lost there.

Man, no offense, but continuations inevitable will get compared to the predescesor since you are continuing from the roots of something else, you are essentially being carried by someone or something else in said situation. If it were a reboot or a totally different continuity maybe that could do it, but a continuation will always carry the burden of having to make a credible build from the ending of the past products. And prequels have it even worse mind since prequels have the extra weight that nothing they build upon there would make unnecesary conflicts with the original product.
And in fact even people who liked G5 often would pretend that G4 is not exactly connected to G5, at least not the way the writers want it. So if something like that happens, is worth to ask why it happens.
Once again…you just literally repeated the same you just said earlier but with different words.
You have to pretend G4 didn’t exist for it to make sense? The continuity with G4 in G5 isn’t perfect but it’s nowhere near that bad. I’ve seen all of G4 and most of the retcons people point out are not even that important to the plot. In fact G4 did the same thing several times.
Also if you have to pretend G4 didn’t exist, you clearly never watched anything from G5 as Twilight’s existence is crucial to Sunny’s entire character. Without her that falls apart.

You have to pretend that G4 didnt happen for G5 to make any sense.
•The main show is only on Netflix, which means extremely limits viewers (most children probably won’t be using Netflix because most parents don’t use Netflix for kids shows when YouTube exists and is free and Netflix is struggling as it is). Doing that basicaly aready doomed the show as 60% of people that watch it are pirating it.
•Because of Netflix the animation department suffers due to time crunching and and too small of a team for the 3D animation. Some of the animation is really good but there are a lot of moments where it appears awkward or are just straight up tons of animation errors.
•The TYT shorts’ artstyle is downright ugly and some ponies straight up look nothing like their 3D selves.
•Going from movie to showcase the majority of Hitch’s character and personality is tossed into the bin for no reason.
•The episode structure harms the show the most because of the “handful of episode ~ 1 40min special ~ handful of episodes ~ 40 min special” episode structure. For the amount of time between content you get less content from the main show than you would get from 1 season of FiM. At best it should’ve been at least 12 episode seasons instead of the mess of a episode structure it currently has.
•Most G4 fans never gave it a chance, a lot of whom straight up made lies about the series before the movie even came out, some of which are perpetuated to this day. Sure it has issues but so did G4 (which has retconned itself constantly but it’s apparently only an issue when G5 does it)
The most glaring issue is that most people can’t watch it without pirating it, the episode structure and being exclusive to Netflix doomed it to struggle, and most people do not like the artstyle of the 2D shorts, the 3D animation suffers because of a small team and time constraints as well as corporate meddling because of Netflix.
I love the crap out of G4 and I still do, but I’m caught caught up with G5 as well and the plot itself isn’t terrible as people claim it to be. Chapter 2 is pretty slow and has some meh episodes, but Chapter 4 has set MYM in the better direction. The plot by itself is perfectly fine for what it sets out to do. Most complaints about the plot are just people desperate for more G4 content or are just salty because Faust isn’t involved (not like she actually did much in terms of story writing beyond create the characters and world of G4 and the first 3 episodes…), because apparently she’s a deity to G4 fanatics.

What parts don’t make sense then? Most people’s claims about what doesn’t make sense are either people who never paid attention in G4 or just automatically assume that because something from G4 isn’t shown in G5 or explained it’s miraculously an egregious retcon. While there are some serious retcons like the creation of the Unity Crystals contradicts Twilight’s character and G5 stating that Earth Pony magic never existing in G4.
It honestly could have been worse they could have made the new main cast be carbon copies of Twilight and her friends with no originality but they didn’t.

Plot is 100% the most glaring issue with G5
G5 does not make sense at all.
The idea was to have G5 as a continuation from the get-go, if they did it that way it would piss a lot of people off by making it so G4 wasn’t real and and no longer canon. Thats more something you’d see in a bad fanfic.
G5 makes more sense for what it is, minus the 2 main retcons in the show. Plus f e whole “G4 was just a show in G5” thing wouldn’t really add anything to the plot whatsoever, which is obviously why they never did it. G5 is a mess for many reasons but plot is not one of them.
I wish that was the reality of G5, not the travesty we have now.
Uhhhhh, no. It means G4 was nothing.
How so? It would protect the integrity of the G4 at the same time bolster the standalone aspect of G5 while keeping a loose link to G4. I say it’s a win-win.
It’s the one you came up with and I don’t think it’s what happened
@Wayneponeth
It is an absolutely awful idea.
Then it IS meta. It’ll be so weird to see how a magical pony show works in a magical pony world.
I would love that! XD Holy Celestia that would be the biggest meta ever.
So far, from the leaks, it appears Friendship is Magic, is not real in g5. G4 was apparently a show in G5 so Twilight and her friends are all not real and cartoon characters.
I think so too. Not sure though. But in a show that contains magical elements, we shouldn’t be too surprised about small lapses like that. Maybe it’s just sufficiently advanced bag technology.
Pony Life wasn’t meta. It was a bunch of bedtime stories told by Pinkie Pie to her kid.
She doesn’t seem to be a filly though and instead fully grown like the G4 Mane Six.
In higher quality close-up of her face, they are, indeed, eyelashes. And yes, indeed, there’s a strap crossing through her chest.
@Wayneponeth
As meta as Pony Life?
