Just finished Reflections. Now I can see why sombra looks like that after the purification. It’s kind of interesting that the story brings it around tho, in the alt universe sombra becomes corrupted while in the mainline he gets purified. The two sombras kind of just switched places.

Aw no man, I disagree. He looks like he did before he got corrupted. Plus, he looks like Sombra from the Reflections comic, which was the whole point, to sort of bring it round, alt Sombra becomes corrupted and mainline Sombra becomes purified.

Nah, I’m not talking about the plot at all really. Just artistic choices. The way Andy drew him makes him look more like a prince than anything and that’s certainly not what sombra should look like. They could just get rid of the glow in his eyes but no they have to draw him like a blueblood recolor who bears very little resemblance to sombra. Again I’m not calling his umbrum-ness into question, just really miffed Andy has to draw the transformed sombra like that.

See, he’s never completely “changed” or “transformed”. He’s always been that Umbrum you see on a panel of Siege and then morphed into a Pony/Umbrum hybrid before being dumped into the Arctic wastes. So him growing up as a cutie markless colt with a gray coat, slick black mane and green eyes really was him, he grew up and developed just as any creature would. After spending a childhood and adolescence’s worth of abuse by Crystal Pony and terror by Crystal Heart (including it showing and reminding him that he was nothing more than a monsterous savage), he discovered the Red Crystal portal to the Umbrum prison where Rabia told him of his true purpouse and his dark magic powers were unlocked, corrupting his mind with absolute anger. He went on to fulfill his supposed destiny but was stopped by the princesses. Again, during the siege that really was him, just sullen and weathered down after taking revenge on the princesses and the Empire and feeling unfulfilled.
 
Keep in mind that after his transformation, we don’t really see much of him. There’s only like, two pages to go off of. Indeed, he is in awe at what just happened, is thankfull to Hope for saving him yet again and sets off on his quest of redemption with vigor.
 
For all we know, he could still have bouts of introversion, introspection, brooding and anger. It is, after all, part of his observable personality, if we take his whole saga into account.

That does make sense, but the way the comic presents him after his transformation is, well, nasty. Sealing away his umbrum elements is supposed to make him a better pony, not to completely change him. Don’t know if I’m reading too much into the comic, but to me it looks like his demeanor has completely changed after the purification/transformation. He lost most of his defining features.
 
My headcannon is similar to yours. Together the princesses and Hope sealed his umbrum elements away, just like when he was a colt it won’t easily resurface. With Hope by his side he can always feel at ease, less of his former grouchy self and more of a calm, collected pony living his best life.

Hmmm… indeed he was quite grouchy as King Sombra but anyone would be in his position. He’s had quite the hard life. But after him and Hope get some resolution to their lives (for now), he is a tad happier…  
My headcannon is that his Umbrum “essence” was sealed within him when Hope “purified” him, similar to when she saved him the first time the Heart nearly obliterated him. The princesses helped out since he was in direct line of fire to the heart so it’s Bad Shadowy Things Removal Powers were at maximum. Sombra can still use his dark magic and temporarily transform into an Umbric like state if driven by emotion (rage or such, like Mr Hyde and whatnot). The Heart can still target his essence, so staying calm would be the best course of action.  
Hope will of course try her hardest to make sure does.

Sometime in the middle of the night they switched positions, unknowingly. Sombra woke up in the morning cradled in Hope’s chest. Literally a living, breathing waifu pillow. lmao.

Meh, they stripped him of his umbrum elements at the end. That sombra can be nice to anyone. Hell, he looked like he wouldn’t even hurt a fly. Normal sombra on the other hand always has a grouchy, bitter side even when he’s ‘redeemed’. Around Hope he’s probably 90% chill and 10% grumpy/sulky. But yeah that grouchy side will probably start to fade as they journey together, cuz hope’s like brimming with positive energy.

Come on, Sombra is officially Hope’s weirdo. Of course she’s the only creature he softens up for. Plays silly games with her, skips across fields with her, picks flowers and presents them to her, bowing down, looking all goofy doing so, keeps her warm and comfortable while she sleeps, cooks for her, reads books while she’s snuggled up beside him, protects her from all the bullies of Equestria and beyond, let’s her preform medical check ups on himself and so on…

Damn. Isn’t that just hope lessly romantic? I’m fond of the idea that sombra only shows his soft side around hope and even then, he only does it when hope’s not paying attention or is sound asleep.

Easy. They decide to rest for the night and he drapes it around her, pulls her into a hug and she falls sound asleep in his forelegs, on his chest.
