Description

While do some research for another piece of art I stumbled upon some imagery for the 1930 and 1934 Henderson Streamline Link which embody much that of the Art Deco movement.

In particular I came across images of one 1930 Streamline in a two-tone white and blue paint scheme instead of the all black. The moment I saw that I imagined Rarity saying.

“Oh darling! That’s quite stylish! And it has a trunk for my cap and purse!” full

So of course I had to draw something. I decided to not directly copy the Henderson but used it as an inspiration for a similar type bike. For my bike I drew some inspirations from one greatest designers of the Art Deco era Raymond Loewy. Especially his locomotives and other streamliner steam locomotives of the 1930s. Link

Now like the Henderson Streamline this is a very impractical bike. The bodywork adds to its overall weight, limits the movement of the front, and restricts the lean angle of the bike. Plus to get at most of the running gear you have to start move bodywork.

But it has that lovely retro-futuristic look to it. Like it could’ve been in some big-budget Hollywood film from the Golden Age of the silver screen. So I decided to pose Rarity as if she was starlet posing for one of those publicity shots from the era. To complete the look I dressed her like an aviatrix from the period. Complete with riding pants, knee boots, leather flight jacket, silk scarf, and an aviator’s style of helmet and goggles to finish out her outfit.
