Given that I couldn’t even watch ‘My Little Pony the Movie’ in theatres without having to sit through a terrible Swedish dub, I’m honestly okay with this. At least now I can see it in English without having to wait for home releases. Really, I’m still salty about that.

Covid make theatres to close and movies to be delayed And usually When a movie gets delayed it can cause a never want to get delayed because the 1st one now has its release slot

You realize that the film was slotted for September, right? That’s traditionally the month where the worst of the worst are released. And most of them bomb or make a tiny profit.
 
And a lot of movies being dumped to Shitflix were likely never going to make a profit anyway.

No. Hasbro sold it because it was easier to offload and make a profit due to its potentially low budget.
 
Streaming is unlikely to replace theatrical or television revenues anytime soon (just look at what’s happening to newspapers to see how traditional media’s bet on digital could play out). Netflix only became cash flow positive because of production shutdowns.

This makes a ton of sense and the fact that there are people in the fandom saying “see this shows Hasbro has no confidence in it at all” really have not been paying attention to what is going on with theaters recently. This is not a sign of no confidence this is Hasbro realizing that theaters are in trouble and streaming is going to be more viable for a while to come if not permanently going forward.

The difference here is, Netflix won’t release in theatres before releasing it on their service like other films did. It said “skipping theatres” for a reason. Same with SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run (although in the US it will hit Paramount+ (fka CBS All Access) and PVOD on March 4, months after releasing it on Netflix outside of the US.)
 
Also, the Snyder Cut won’t be in theatres either.

Actually, another reason why is because of Warner Bros’ new approach with HBO Max and movies coming out this year. Not just Wonder Woman 1984, but also other films like Tom and Jerry, Godzilla vs Kong, Justice League: The Snyder Cut, and Space Jam: A New Legacy to name a few.

Both. At least that’s what we learned from Kidscreen. Sure, there will be a new cast of characters and the animation will be in CGI with new designs, but according to Ms. Thompson, it’s gonna be in the same universe as FiM and PL. (Or should I say it’s a G4.8 movie)

That said, Netflix pays the production cost plus 30% for the shows it runs, so Hasbro has already broken even and made a 30% margin the day the movie airs.

Or the fact that the franchise is niche and no longer as popular as it was back in 2010-2013. Sure, the 2017 film did well on the box office, but wasn’t enough to produce a direct sequel since the 2021 film it’s not a sequel. (Which is what we thought until new information came from Kidscreen a while back.)

The franchise is niche anyway. Thanks to fandom drama and the name stigmata. Really sucks that it will skip theatres, but I don’t have a problem with streaming like a majority of people have. (Aside from the fact that there’s so many SVOD streaming services that they can’t afford.)
