Oh no, very much agree, this shit has been happening for ages, and not just online: witness the constant lawsuits between pop musicians because their songs happens to share a chord progression, or the nightmare of patent trolling in the programming world, a case where everyone knows it’s done in bad faith and people are still getting away with it.
And to LunaFan, no worries then. I’m glad this one turned out alright, and thankfully it never got too ugly anyway, but a lot of these things do. One of the best and worst parts of the internet is that it makes organizing around a cause VERY easy, and the whole thing can go bad quickly.
@Bitshiftwastaken
Yeah, I guess I jump to conclusions to quickly, and also, Zko was only joking wen he said that it was traced, Anyhow, nice job with the animation, and we hope to see more of this in the future!
I miss the early fandom, when “ponify everything” was met with praise … and not with rabid fanboys trying to enforce copyright over an idea that wasn’t even very original in the first place.
@EvilEnchantress
You did good, don’t worry. This is just post-2017 internet, where outrage and baseless smear happen for no reason.
People are too quick to call “traced” sometimes. There’s definitely a real problem with actual, genuine tracing, but also art gets vague, and ideas get shared and revisited, especially if you’re operating in a narrow niche. When I saw this initially I laughed because I have a pic myself that’s not too dissimilar (though not animated). I wasn’t thinking about ZKO’s piece at the time, though I had certainly seen it at some point.
Enchantress admits some inspiration/connection, which is fine, but this clearly isn’t a “trace.” The timing is different the ANATOMY is different (no boobs to reveal and hide, etc, the movement of the character is different. This seems to be a pretty clear case of EE seeing an animation, liking it, and deciding to do something similar (apparently so long after that they couldn’t even remember the original clearly). That isn’t theft, artists are allowed to copy general ideas and scenarios. If nearly every keyframe matched here, the timing was dead-on etc, then I’d call shenanigans, but as it stands there’s nothing all that nefarious going on.
All that aside, I initially came down to the comments just because I wanted to say the animation was really good, so I’ll add that. It’s acted really effectively.
TBH, I’ve seen this scene plenty, just not animated all that often. There are only so many ways to animate it, so obviously there are going to be some similarities. I think it’s fine to say inspired by or whatever, but if Zko is getting in a tizzy over it… That’s really not your fault or problem. They are both good, but they’re clearly not traced at all, and the scenes are different enough that I’m honestly surprised Zko is upset about it. Sans ponies, I like yours more for lots of little reasons. The smooth artwork, the headphones, the clear confusion on the character, how yours is more of a scene and less of a loop, the squirting, the embarrassment, the whole after scene, the webcam, etc. Zko’s is nice, but it feels more… fake. Even though yours is a horse, I like it way more. More of this sort of content, and less mindless nonsensical drama is what I need in my online life.
@EvilEnchantress
It’s okey, I guess that we all jump to conclusions here, Nice job with the gift!, it’s nice to have more hypnosis art around here, but yeah, I guess that it’s quite surprising the amount of similarities between the two
This was indeed inspired by that gif. I am actually quite happy to see it again. I haven’t seen it in years, didn’t know the name of the artist, and failed to find it with simple google searches, so I assumed it had disappeared off the face of the internet. Thank you for linking it.
I have updated the description to mention Zko’s animation.
My gif is certainly not ‘traced’. It was made completely from scratch without even a copy of Zko’s gif to use as a reference. The idea of instantaneous forced hypnosis is the same, but Zko does not have ownership of the concept.
That being said, there are some similarities in execution that struck me when I saw Zko’s gif. Both are in profile, the girl drools after being hypnotized, and she leans back in her chair. I had no idea my art would turn out to appear so similar to Zko’s when all I had was an old memory of that gif. In retrospect, perhaps I should have at least mentioned that my gif was inspired by another animation I had seen, or tried a little harder to find it.
Dang, normally I’m not a fan of the female being hypnotized (There’s WAY too many of them), but this animation is just amazing! Using Coco also makes it as cute as it’s lewd~
