In the last few movies, I am sure the exposition always happened _*after_* the intro, which makes this one feel kind of off.


 
Also, the way its presented here makes it feel to me like the Mane 6 are protagonists of the movie in addition to that pony. But it could change if the lyrics, as you said, prove otherwise.
