How is it infamous? It’s been beloved since the day it aired. It was never controversial nor has it ever been disliked by the majority of the fandom.
They all recognized that everyone else was also trying to get Smartypants so the mob switched from just trying to get the doll to stopping others from getting it. It’s like how in Fall Guys there are players who just prevent others from gaining points rather than getting any themselves. I also thought that kind of escalation helped sell just how badly Twilight fucked up.

I think the main thing I didn’t like about this was the fighting at the end. I get the whole “want it need it spell” but if you look at the overall brawl, ponies who didn’t even have the doll were fighting to the point they wanted to end each other. To me, that’s not necessary

Nah. I can see someone not liking this episode but it’s still a far cry better than most that came out of the shows second half.
