My guess is that it was approximately 700 moons (a “moon” is kinda like a complete lunar phase, which takes roughly one month) before the main setting when Granny Smith founded Ponyville. This is where it starts off with 1 bit.
By the time Granny Smith was middle aged, it was probably about 300-350 moons before the main setting, and this is where inflation begins, where 1 bit from 700 moons ago would now be 2 bits.
Then comes the time where the Mane Six, especially Twilight, are just little fillies, which takes place approximately 100 moons before the main setting. By then, 1 bit from 700 moons ago inflates to about 5 bits.
Next after that is the main setting itself. Throughout this time, Twilight lives in Ponyville and hangs out with her best friends. In this setting, 1 bit from 700 moons ago is now 10 bits.
Finally, there’s the future setting. It takes place about 250 moons after Twilight is crowned the new ruler of Equestria. By this time, 10 bits from the main setting inflates to about 15 bits.
Now, my theory may not be completely accurate, but what are your opinions about the inflation rates of the bits? Share them in the comments below.

The staff stated “moon” doesn’t refer to a real world unit of time and is used when they can’t be bothered to come up with specific dates. Things like “Apple Family Reunion” show moons can’t correspond with real world months, at least with any consistency.
And where was it shown or implied the value of bits was subject to inflation?
If a “moon” is one month, doesn’t that mean that 8⅓ years passed between the Apple family reunion in the pilot and the episode “Apple Family Reunion” in the third season?
Applejack and Apple Bloom are close to present age at least one reunion prior so more, likely much more, then 100 moons past between them being fillies and present. This is still valid if we assume moons are something shorter than months.
is this based on any observation with evidence from the show itself, since there are plenty of scenes when ponies buy things or generally use bits, or is it completely theoretical
Inflation probably wouldnt be an over-time thing so much as a leftover result of hard times right? So I’d wager bits went down in value after the sombra, discord, nightmare moon disasters. Then again after the nightmare moon, discord, sombra, chrysalis, tirek, grogar disasters. But from Twilight’s reign onwards I dont see why it would change.

Where did you get the 250 moons/21.8 years estimate for The Last problem out of curiosity.
Mostly, but not completely theoretical. It’s more based on how inflation goes worldwide in real life.
